Relearning Japanese, Working on Writing, and Labor Day!

Hi everyone,
I hope you're having a great weekend. Lately, life has had me running around quite a bit but here's the TLDR. I've been packing up for the move, studying Japanese, and trying to get my itinerary together for my upcoming Japan trip. Phew, that's a lot, but I'm looking forward to things calming down so you can get some photos of the new apartment and some new snippets.
In all the chaos, I did manage to sit down to write even if it was only a little bit, so here's a sneak peak. It's from one of my Vella stories. Any guess which one?
SNIPPET START
I clasped onto my sister's locket and rushed towards the door, vampires hissed at my back, the wind whipped at my hair and clothes as the door rushed towards me. I shoved the key in the lock and turned.
With a gentle turn, it clicked and I slipped into the room. Slamming it in a vampire's face with a thud. The grating noise of nails on metal made me grit my teeth and I shuffled backward and smacked into something with a thud followed by clattering to the floor. I turned back to see a chessboard and looked down to find pieces on the floor in two colors, one of them the off white of vampire fangs and the other the color of human blood.
I picked up one of the red pieces and my fangs slid out as the scent of blood wafted to my nose. Not just the look of blood either. What the hell is all of this?
Scanning the room further, I glimpsed another table filled with symbols gilt in gold. I ran my finger along one with a crest resembling the key. On the table, there was a photo of vampires.
The girl on the left was unmistakably my sister in the black and white photo...and I was right beside her.
Last but not least, I'll discount my new release, Amy's Betrayal, for Labor day so if you haven't grabbed it yet, now's your chance!
END SNIPPET
That's all for now!
Have a great week and stay safe!
Sincerely,
Julia (they/he)
