Hi everyone,

I hope you're having a great week. This week, I have several pieces of good news. I officially got my first vaccine shot on April 20th, so yay for that. The Sunday livestream on YouTube went really well. I got 10 pages of editing done and finished the first rough draft of the emotion witch story. I'll give it a good self-edit and then I'll be sending it off to my beta team, so those that opted in for betas and ARCs keep an eye out for an email from me in the next week or so.

I also recently hit 500 followers on Tiktok and am running a giveaway on there with signed copies, character art, and more until mid-May. You can check it out by clicking here.

And I got to around page 95 in the editing stages as of writing this on Friday. I'm chugging along and getting excited for the beta reading stage.

Also, next week is my birthday (April 30th) AND there is an awesome livestream going on the same day in honor of Autism acceptance month which is something close to my heart. If you want to check it out on Twitch stream for that, it will be from 4pm to midnight EDT and you can find the stream here.

And today I have the first page of chapter three. If you want to read the whole chapter, I'll have a google docs link at the end of the excerpt. Enjoy!

Amy's Rebellion Chapter 3 (Post Developmental edits)

Light spilled through the dirt smeared windows, waking Amy. She rubbed at her eyes and took in the drawn curtains and the coppery stains on the tattered carpet. Two more roaches lay dead snared by haphazard roach traps placed near the nightstand and entrance door.

Panic rose in Amy’s throat when she didn't see or hear Garnet, but her bags were still here. Amy peeked her head into the bathroom. "Garnet? Hello?" But the bathroom was empty. Her mouth went dry and her hand shook when she checked the enchantments. The magic had been undone. The door was still locked, and the metal chain was intact but unlatched. No one had broken in, so where was she? Shit. Shit. Shit. What if she's in trouble. What am I supposed to do?

Amy looked over at her phone and saw a message from an unknown sender. Her blood froze as she hit play on the voicemail and a scratchy voice answered. "We have your sister. If you want her, you'll need to turn yourself in."

Amy dropped the phone to the floor like it had bitten her. Why would they take her but not me? How did they find us or get past the barrier?

Muffled giggling came from the other side of the door and Amy peered through the window and caught a glimpse of a tawny arm and strands of Naru’s dark black hair. Amy suppressed a groan. You weren’t supposed to bring her here, Garnet. It’s too dangerous. Amy cracked open the door to see Naru and Garnet crouched by the window. Amy placed a hand on her hip. “Is this your idea of a joke? I thought Garnet was actually in trouble.”

Naru grinned up at her. "Your sister called me and told me you needed some additional protection. Sorry about the prank. It was her idea. I didn’t think you’d actually believe that Garnet captured herself. That was her voice on the phone." Naru pointed a thumb at Garnet.

Amy glared daggers at Garnet. "You have a sick and twisted sense of humor."

Garnet bowed. "Why thank you. I take pride in my work." Garnet gave a mock bow until she saw Amy’s scowl. "Okay. Okay. It was in poor taste, but I brought your friend." Cough cough. “And love interest.”

Amy let out an exasperated sigh. "Yes, after I told you not to because it’s too dangerous. How did you know she would come?"

Garnet elbowed Amy, “You know exactly why she didn’t hesitate to come here.”

Naru flushed and rubbed at her arm. “It wasn’t just that. I’m also here on assignment.” She tapped her pointer fingers together. “It-It’s good to see you, Amy. You're still cute as ever even if you have a bad case of bed head."

Naru looked Amy up and down in a way that made Amy’s cheeks heat. She smoothed out her hair, running her fingers through the violet strands.

"Maybe I should leave you lovebirds alone to make googly eyes at each other," said Garnet.

"We're not love birds!" Amy shouted.

END OF EXCERPT

I hope you enjoyed the excerpt. Here's the link for the whole chapter if you want to read the rest. Keep an eye out for more next week as I go through the Campnanowrimo challenge.

That's all I've got for this week.

Now, I have a question for you.

If you were an emotion witch (or mage) what emotion would you control?

I feel like I'd control anxiety because "gestures at everything."

And if you want to see even more content from me, you can check out my Patreon as well.

That's all I've got for you today. Have a great day and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Julia
