Instagram Logo5 Tips for Visiting Dachau Dachau is a difficult place to visit, as are all concentration camps or places of mass murder. However, it is a vital location to visit when in Germany. In order to make your day "easier" here are some things you should consider 1) You Don't Need a Tour I go over the exact details of why you don't need a tour in my blog post, but to generalize: It is VERY easy to get to from Munich on your own with public transportation and the memorial site has fantastic tours on site. 3) Take the Sbahn/ Bus I have an entire step by step guide on how to take the train and bus to Dachau and it is actually really really easy and so much more affordable than a tour or a private hire 2) Schedule Some Down Time For Afterwards This is a heavy, hard topic and most likely you will be feeling the energies and emotions of the site. Don't just rush off to the next tourist site or Biergarden. Allow yourself a few hours to decompress before jumping into your next activities. 3) It is Free If you want an audio guide (highly recommended) it is only a few Euros to rent 4) Give Yourself Plenty of Time Between the time to get there as well as giving yourself the proper amount of time the site deserves, you'll want to plan on around 4-6 hours. There is a very well done (and hard to stomach) museum which that alone can take awhile to do. Don't rush such an important location, even if it is a difficult day to absorb 5) NO SELFIES I hate that I have to even say this, but yes, there were legit people taking selfies. PLEEEAAAASE don't be these tourists here! Have you been to Dachau or another concentration camp?
