Hi there my fellow Wanderers,

If you are knee deep in planning a trip to Germany right now, most likely you've started to hear the buzz about the brand new Deutschland Train Ticket.

But OOOF is it a doozy to understand and navigate!!! (Why can't trip planning just ever be EASY!?)

The reality is that the ticket sounds fantastic at first glance. I mean shoot- 49 Euro for an entire month of train travel, buses, Ubahns, Sbahns, and trams!?

Sign me Up, right???

Well, maybe not so quickly. This train ticket has a LOT of nuances that you are going to want to fully understand before clicking "Purchase."

Here are just a few pain points that people are already seeing that I am answering in my extremely detailed Complete Guide to the Deutschland Ticket

  • You can ONLY travel on Regional Trains. Don't know what that is/means for the average tourist? I go over that!
  • It's subscription based- meaning it is a monthly reoccurring ticket that the cost is automatically debited from your account (Yes, You CAN buy for just 1 month if you want though)
  • There are early cancelation dates if you only want 1 month and you need to pre-purchase it
  • You may need a European IBAN (don't worry- I give you step by step instructions on how to get this for free)
  • I even give a few hacks on how to possibly buy the ticket with your credit card (Yes...all legally and above board!)

With all that being said, I do think it's a really good option for travelers to look into and consider (as long as you fully understand everything about it!) and I, of course, bought myself one already as a Budget Traveler in Germany.

What do you think? Will you be buying the new 49 Euro Ticket?
