So..

For a while now I’ve taught this:

O = [T + C + B] × R × S

Outcome is a function of:

Thinking.

Communication.

Behaviour.

Multiplied by:

Resources.

Systems.

I’ve probably taught that equation hundreds of times in the last 2 years.

But recently I realised something.

I had not taken one implication of it far enough.

Most experts have enormous amounts of value sitting inside their Thinking, Communication and Behaviour.

They know what to notice.

They ask particular questions.

They recognise patterns beginners miss.

They know when something is a warning sign.

They know when two things that look identical are actually very different.

They know when to recommend A instead of B.

That is expertise.

But there is a problem.

Alot of that expertise only becomes available when the expert is physically present.

On the call.

In the room.

Reading the document.

Looking at the problem.
