Before I jump into my current life saga, I want to welcome the new subscribers to my newsletter. I’m so grateful to have you and promise not to bury you under a lot of material. You’ll only hear from me when I believe I have words of great wisdom to share. (Just kidding.)
Now, onto the reason for this newsletter’s title. Everyone reacts to life’s unexpected hits in unique ways, but I’m willing to bet your reaction is much like mine recently was. Your ability to focus on anything except the emergency is shot to hell. Every brain cell is at work dealing with what’s been thrown at you. You’d give a great deal to have your so called boring life back.
Here, in short, is what recently happened to me and someone I dearly love. As a result, I couldn’t so much as think about writing for over a week let alone sit at the computer. My adult son (we live together) was in the process of dismantling a small propane heater when something went terribly wrong. In short, it blew up. He wound up with second degree burns on his forehead, nose, mouth, arms, wrists, and all ten fingers. He ran to the shower and cold water to try to deal with the pain from exposed nerves while I called 911. An ambulance took him to the hospital where we thankfully learned that his eyes and lungs had been spared. I’m not going to risk horrifying anyone by showing pictures of his blisters and peeling skin. It takes about an hour and a half every day to treat and bandage his wounded flesh.
He’s getting better. In fact, as I write this, wearing an oversized hat, long sleeved shirt, and gloves to protect his sensitive skin from the sun, he’s mowing our lawn. His arms and hands are thoroughly creamed and wrapped. When he’s done, he’ll remove the wraps and take a shower carefully exfoliating dead skin. Then we’ll reapply the prescription salves and add fresh covering.
And that, in brief, is why I gave up on my self-imposed deadline for my latest book. Not only have I been to the pharmacy five times (long story), I’ve been unable to divorce my mind from how much worse things could have been.
As a reader, can you escape an emergency by burying yourself in fiction? If so I envy you.
Enough! I’ll end by pointing you to Carnal Lesson, one of the books in my sexy Carnal series. It’s free. Here’s the Amazon link but it’s also available at the same non price at Barnes and Noble and Kobo. https://www.amazon.com/Carnal-Lesson-Vonna-Harper-ebook/dp/B007D926SA/ref=
Carnal Lesson, like the others in the series, focuses on submission and domination. No sweet romance here. Instead, it speaks to many women’s need to escape into the fantasy of not being in control.
