Howdy ,
During a recent conversation with a C-level executive, he lamented on how difficult it has been for him to find a group of connected friends that he can leverage on for advice.
Well, I told him the view from my window is different.
Why?
Because I have that.
And it didn’t happen by chance.
I took the risk to create it.
Let me explain better.
No doubt, as we get busier, it becomes a bit more difficult to keep friendships we have had over the years.
Instead of complaining, create a structure to keep them.
This is where having your personal wisdom circle comes in.
It’s a collection of friends that you are committed to meeting with regularly to build each other up.
You can call it your personal unpaid mastermind.
Let me tell you how I created one a few years back by doing these 5 simple things.
1 - I went through my contacts and selected 6 guys that we share the same values, are at similar or not-too-far-apart life stages and are driven to progress. I didn’t want more than 7 people to keep the group intimate enough.
2 - I sent a short WhatsApp invitation message to all 6 of them to know if they would be interested in a mastermind. I was also clear to mention the purpose, i.e. personal development, family, & career
3 - I let them know that the commitment was going to be only for 6 months after which everyone would decide if they wanted to renew their commitment. This is important so that people know they can leave when they want to.
4 - Out of 6, 5 said “Yes”. I proposed a first meeting date based on everyone’s availability.
5 - At the first meeting, I shared the expected benefits of the group and what their commitment would be. I also asked for their expectations for the group.
And with that we were off to the races.
The group has continued for years. We meet virtually once a month.
Enough with me. If you want to start your own wisdom circle, you already have all the steps. Let me just give you a few more stuff to make it easier for you.
I - You can access the google doc file that has a sample invitation WhatsApp message you can adapt, benefits the members can expect, what each person brings to the group and a commitment sign up sheet. - https://bit.ly/SetUpMastermindDoc
II - You can also access a google form with sample questions for renewal commitments every 6 months - https://forms.gle/FUT62jvW5XYupuBt9
Now you have no excuse not to have your own personal wisdom circle aka your unpaid personal mastermind.
Got any any questions?, hola back at me
