Welcome to the February 25th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week
At the beginning of the week, I realised that I was not moving at the pace I needed to so I could create the sort of impact I needed to deliver at work and in my practice.
My goals for this year are not on 2x level.
They are on the 10x level.
10x level goals require 10x level thinking.
I normally have 3 focus activities every week.
I decided to turn things on its head.
I am going to focus on achieving 1 needle-moving activity at work & in my practice every week.
Does that mean I will do nothing else?
Nope.
It just means I am committed to delivering that one thing above all else.
Why?
Because delivering that one thing will help me deliver the goals I have set faster.
Imagine that - doing 1 thing every week. By the end of 1 year, I would have done 52 needle-moving activities.
There is no way I will not have delivered on my goals.
Or be very much closer to the goals I have set.
I am passionate about my 2024 goals because I see a great sense of God-given responsibility to live them out.
If God had these expectations of me, I would be unfaithful to not make every effort to live them out.
So, 1 needle-moving objective for every week.
To take me closer to the destination.
The joy is in the journey and the reward at the end.
Things I Learnt
1 - The Difference We Leave Behind: I ran into someone from my undergraduate years during the week.
We probably have not seen in almost 20 years.
She is doing great and is an Executive Director in the firm she works at.
There was something about the way she greeted me.
She wasn’t greeting me because she met someone from way back.
She was greeting me based on the investment of time and value that I gave in those years gone by.
I was happy for her.
More than that, I was happy to have been part of the people that added value to her so she could become better.
No, I don’t take a big credit for anything.
I’m just glad for the little investment I could make into her life.
That is the joy of every relationship.
The opportunity to make a difference.
2 - The Measure of a Man’s Worth: I had an interesting conversation during the week with someone about car choices.
According to him, he felt given my current position at work, I needed to buy a “big man’s” car.
I, on the other hand, didn’t see why I needed to do that.
I am not sure it’s because I am not into cars.
Naaah.
It’s just a matter of life principles that I have defined for myself long ago.
I will only buy what I need to do what I need to do. Anything else excess.
Not that I mind a bit of excess.
It’s just that a flashy car is not an excess that appeals to me.
According to him, this was a way that they would know I occupied an important position.
It’s not my nature.
It’s not aligned with my principles.
I love the simplicity of conversations where we are listened to based on what we bring to the conversation. Not based on where I think you are on the totem pole.
I love to enter a room unannounced so I can observe people in their natural element.
Observing people is a fascinating experience. I learn more from people when they are in their element.
And I love to continue doing that.
Without showing up in borrowed paraphernalia.
Postscript
May the joy of living a life driven by principles inspire you to stand apart from the bandwagon. Amen.
