Faith & Life Lessons - December 18, 2022

Welcome to the December 18th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

I was reminded once again of how God arranges seemingly uncomfortable circumstances for the good of His own.

The family spent the weekend away from the house:

We were staying at a resort which we had visited a couple of times.

We usually missed the lunch service of the day we arrived.

This time out, we wanted to do everything to make sure we arrived within the 1 pm - 2:30 pm service time.

A couple of things happened along the way and we arrived at almost 3 pm.

When we got to our rooms, we didn’t like it. We asked for a change which was not ready.

We left our luggage with them and decided to stop by the restaurant for a drink or two.

As it turned out, they had not cleared out all the buffet spread for lunch.

The kitchen staff were quite gracious. They even brought out a few extras for the family.

And that’s how a bad room option got us in for lunch - instead of going to our rooms to just relax.

Before checking out, I decided to check out the car to be sure it was ready for the trip back.

Just me being the prepared guy.

And that’s when I saw that one of the tyres had lost air. The staff at the resort went with me to town to try and get it fixed.

We discovered that it had picked a nail. The guy to fix it was not around.

I went back to the resort to wait for him.

The resort allowed us to stay the extra time at no cost. They even allowed us to have lunch. Which turned out to be Godsent because the kids had started the “I’m hungry” song.

This would have been a big worry over the long drive back home.

They had lunch and slept most of the trip back.

And me?

I am learning to be always grateful.

Even when unexpected things happen.

Things I Learnt

1-How You View Your Value: I wanted to buy a couple of books from a thought leader. I reached out to his office and they told me how much it would cost.

They wanted to know if I wanted the ebook or hard copy option.

I asked for the ebooks

They told me they were the same price.

To which I responded, "I'm saving you in printing costs, that should count for something towards cheaper prices."

The lady I spoke with could not explain further. According to her, that's the rule.

So I reached out directly to the thought leader on Instagram.

He responded. I'll share it below

Hi Tola

Thanks for reaching out

I understand you but let me ask you this way …

If you paid for an insurance policy, should you pay less because you chose the paperless option over the in app option?

No.

You realize that you’re not paying for the medium it comes in, but the policy itself

I don’t sell book products… my product is wisdom - the medium doesn’t decrease or increase the value

I’m sure you understand.

And I understand. Even if I don't agree.

Because I understand I paid the cost for the ebooks as requested.

I understand that is how he views his value. I am paying for his content, not for the medium of delivery.

2-Courage Under Pressure: These past couple of weeks have been high pressure for me. This is because I want to use them to build momentum for 2023.

To do that, I have had to courageously try to persistently knock at a couple of doors.

The encouragement is that God is there in all of it.

Persistence only happens if you have courage.

Interestingly, a few months back while I was praying over my 2023, the word "courage" came to me.

You don't drive the progress that God wants without ounces of courage

And that is what I am pushing within these last days.

No matter the pressure that comes with it.

God's encouragements hold back the gates of the pressure.

Postscript

May you find the courage to persist when pressures try to force you to cave in. May God's encouragement remind you that you have what it takes to succeed. Amen
