Faith & Life Lessons - October 15, 2023

Welcome to the October 15th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

God has a way of preparing us for the challenges we will face before we go into them.

This week was one of those seasons.

On Tuesday, a member of the church leadership team shared a verse of scripture as an encouragement.

She wrote “As an encouragement this morning:

Prov 16v3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

No, she doesn’t do this as a daily action.

As I read it, it caught my attention.

As the rest of my week unfolded, it became my call to action.

I had to let go of the “best-laid plans of men and mice”, let God ruin them and follow Him as unfolds everything the way He wants.

Being better prepared doesn’t mean it’s going to be a smooth ride.

The ride was rough but I pulled through.

Things I Learnt

1-More Than the Event: One of our kids is going for a movie hangout with his friends. The only problem is that the movie is in French.

All the kids agreed to it because the cinema is not showing the version original version i.e. English for this movie.

It was clear that the movie was not what was on the minds of these kids. It’s an opportunity for bonding and play.

The movie was just a side dish.

It’s the way they convince us the parents to bring them all to the cinema.

These kids have learnt early the value of showing up for something they may not enjoy so they can get what they want.

It’s a lesson they will have to live out more times than once in life.

2-Who do you Call for a Prayer: so I told you about how God used someone in the church leadership team to prepare me for the tough week.

Well, when it got tough, I needed more than the early preparation.

I needed someone with me in the trenches.

At a point in time, I sent this message to my spiritual director “Please can you say a prayer for me - I'm having a bit of an emotional strain. A bit overwhelmed by the pressures personally and professionally. Thank you”

His response was a reminder that God also prepares the people who will support you.

He responded “On it!! I am spending time in prayer this morning. Hang in there.”

When I got his response, I felt the spirit of prayer fall on me and I prayed until I felt the burden feel lighter on me.

I was glad to have him in my corner.

I hope you have people like that who you can call for prayer in your corner.

You will need them.

Postscript

May you be wise to cultivate relationships with people who can cover you with prayer and support well before the time you need them. Amen.
