Welcome to the October 8th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week
I recently got invited to join the leadership team of my local church.
It’s an international church and the leadership team currently looks like a mini United Nations with different nationalities.
This is great as I get to experience different perspectives and faith backgrounds.
The more fascinating aspect of the whole experience is the direction that the pastor is giving the group.
The overarching vision is to be a group focused on seeing Christ formed in us as a group and in the church as the overall collective.
The last time I was part of the leadership team that had this vision was during my undergraduate when I led the largest campus fellowship in my school.
It was my biggest Leadership up till then and the easiest thing for me was to drive everyone to pursue the revelation and expression of Christ as the driving agenda for our group.
It was such an experience that we did not have ordinary meetings. There would be discussion meetings when God would change the direction and it would become a God visitation moment.
Despite the many successes we recorded, I was still a bit immature as the leader.
This is one of the reasons I love the current leadership team. The team is led by a very experienced and spiritually mature leader.
A wonderful opportunity for me to learn and grow.
Something I am doing already.
Thank God for this season.
Things I Learnt
1 - Trust People to Think Bigger: I am working on an initiative with my team at work. The guy leading it impressed me with some level of strategic thinking during our review meeting during the week.
It was a bit of an alternative thinking though not directly related to delivering the overall initiative.
It is more aligned with improving staff motivation.
I was impressed by the sense of awareness that the guy showed to come up with it.
We are probably going to modify its execution.
But it shows that if you trust people, they can surprise you by thinking bigger and aiming for more than just what you expect.
2 - When Life is not a Fruit-bowl: During the week, I had one of those down moments. It wasn't because of what I did during the week. Rather, it was in keeping with something I watched.
Do you sometimes stumble on a video that makes you wonder why you seem to have achieved less than someone else?
I had my moment with that during the week.
Normally, I can pull myself out faster. But this time, the feeling did not leave as quickly as I normally fight it.
It's times like this when my spiritual disciplines help me out.
First, I practised a bit of silence. Silence helps me hear the voices I am fighting. It also calms my mind and halts all the cacophony of emotions.
Next, I went to prayer. Yes, not praying to complain but to experience God all over again in a way that gives me confidence over the voices and emotions.
And lastly, the whole experience gave me clarity and wisdom for how to move forward.
This is a gift from God.
It's now my superpower.
Postscript
May you never forget the superpower you now have from overcoming the challenging situations of life. May you live better through it. Amen.
