Hello Happy 2023!

I hope you had a wonderful time with your families and friends back in December. It seems so long ago already!

Thank you to everyone who took up a copy of Camouflage and especially 'big thanks' to everyone who left me a review. Your feedback keeps me going, and I just want you to know that I really appreciate you.

I gave up my 'normal' job in March 2019 to chase my dream of being an author. It hasn't been easy and I've considered looking for another job many times. My passion for telling stories keeps pulling me back to my computer screen and I just can't quite make the move back to regular work, despite the poverty! It is your encouragement that keeps me going, so please know how much I value you.

In today's email, you can find the usual stuff, books that can be picked up for free, giveaways, and my latest book reviews.

I have a new book out which was just a pure joy to write. Carter is definitely going down as one of my favorite characters. His happy ending makes me cry each time I read it! (What am I like!) He's spent his life so far hiding away from people, but God is answering prayers and has a different plan for him.

This is a Christian, Christmas Romance. If you would like a free copy, it is currently free on Amazon until 20th Feb.

Only one thing can bring love into Carter’s life – a Christmas miracle!

Carter decided years ago he didn’t need anyone in his life. As a successful author with no need to venture into the world, he embedded himself in his comfortable Greenwich Village apartment and became a recluse.

After an unsuccessful year of writing, he decides to leave New York City for the holidays and go in search of inspiration. A remote country guesthouse in England seems like the ideal place for him to write his next story. He plans to hide away from yet another Christmastide and the painful memories it evokes. But some things are beyond his control. The fiercest storm in years is hurtling toward Cumbria. It will blanket the area with snow and bring everything to a halt, even bringing down the power lines and cutting off the electricity.

The landlord’s daughter entices him out of his shell when she asks him to help keep the villagers warm. Carter is about to have his world turned upside down as the real reason for Christmas makes itself known.

Can Laura and the villagers melt his frozen heart?

A White Christmas in Berrycombe is a small-town, Christian romance with a whirlwind of festive magic and mistletoe!

Mazie by Regina Felty

5 out of 5 stars A well-written novel with a beautiful message

This is a character-driven story with a slow plot. The author takes her time to slowly unpack the lives of her main characters. This is the type of story you want to read when you want to sit back and thoroughly relax. Felty’s writing style is super-easy to read with a perfect balance of dialogue and description.

I loved this story. By the end of it, I was crying my eyes out! Not sad tears. Emotional ones. I was completely moved by the wonderful message woven through the story that unfolds itself clearly towards the end.

Sentence example: Did it really take me all these years to get this? What have I missed in trying to cling to the past when I still had a future in front of me? This thought comes straight after a wonderful sermon/reflection about Naomi and Ruth.

There is a good smattering of lingering sadness in this book, I’ll not lie. And there are several chapters that include a hospital visit. That said… don’t be put off. It really is a wonderful book. The main characters, Mazie and Brian, both have sadness in their past. I loved their growing friendship, which starts when Brian buys the house next door to the old widow. Wonderful story and message. I really highly recommend it.

Wyrd Blood by Donna Augustine

5 out of 5 stars A magical YA fantasy with an enemies-to-friends theme

Bug is a Wyrd and full of magic. She doesn’t know much about her magic and spends her life hiding it from everyone. There are too many people who would turn someone who possesses magic over to the authorities – and that’s not a fate anyone wants. One day she falls into a trap set by Ryker who is a king she never wanted to meet. While Bug concentrates on a way to escape, what she’s believed for a while, and tried to ignore, is confirmed – she’s dying. Faced with this terrible truth, she accepts a bargain from Ryker, she’ll help him steal something, and he’ll help buy her life back from the Debt Collector.

This has a medium pace to the plot and a steady slow-burn to the romance. The magical elements are well described and the world setting has just enough description to draw a picture without bogging down the story. All the characters, not just the main ones, are fleshed out and interesting. I was just a tiny bit disappointed with the ending – but immediately went and picked up book two in the series eager to read what happens next!
