My fingers are frozen to the keyboard

Happy frosty January!

My kids and I have already had one snow day this week, and it looks like there is a chance for another. I know temps are crazy low all over the US, so I hope wherever you are, you're staying nice and warm!

My family and I had a lovely Christmas season together and then jumped right into a busy January. I swear I feel like I'm always busy, no matter what time of year it is. Maybe it's just my season of life with having preteens and a teen in the house? They're calendars are certainly busier, which means MY calendar is busier too!

It's lots of great stuff, though. My 15 year old daughter is in another play and has begun rehearsals as Mrs. Brill in Mary Poppins, Jr, and she was recently on the homecoming court to represent the freshman class. (Small private school that does homecoming a little differently than others! And we don't have a football team, so homecoming lands during basketball season)

Writers Gonna Write

And I had a wonderful mini writing retreat with some of the Christian Mommy Writers last weekend. Four other writers traveled to my house for a few days and we had the BEST time. We had lots of time laughing together and talking, but we were actually very productive, too! On Saturday we spent the entire day writing, editing, or brainstorming. (Peachums got in on the fun too 😉) And we got Bethany to watch The Princess Bride for the first time (can you believe she had never seen it before?!) and she LOVED IT. Honestly, you ought to check out my instagram for her reaction to a key scene. Click here. It was pretty epic. (And yes, that is my daughter's TARDIS tent)

What I'm Reading

Also so far in January, I have read two INCREDIBLE books. Honestly, I have set the bar HIGH for 2024 when it comes to reading.

The first book is All Now Mysterious by Jennifer Q. Hunt. This is now the third book I've read by Jennifer and I. Love. Her. Books. She has such a gift for writing wonderful characters and meaningful spiritual arcs. This is the second book of the Wisteria House series (I also strongly recommend book one, Through Thorny Ways) and it releases January 26th.

The second book I've read so far this month is Of Love and Treason by Jamie Ogle. I just could NOT put this book down during our snow day. If I wasn't reading, I was definitely thinking about reading! It is such an immersive story and I had to keep reading to find out what happened next. I stayed up until midnight to finish it and, full disclosure, I was full-on ugly crying. This book was amazing and challenged my faith in the best way. This is Jamie's debut and releases on January 22nd.

Both of these books are written by Christian Mommy Writers (the incredible writing community I am a part of) and are perfect examples of quality Christian books. There's been some discourse in the last week about Christian fiction being cheesy, not well written, and only about "pilgrims." I'm so pleased to share amazing books with you that I promise are none of those things! I praise God for the amazing talents He has gifted His children!
