Doing the same thing and expecting different results… yes this is the definition of insanity.

It’s quite literally insane to keep repeating the same patterns and expecting our lives to change.

The self help industry is a multi billion dollar business because so many people long for change. And yet, they’re not prepared to do the things it takes to actually get there.

Do you remember that statistic I shared with you about the amount of people who seek out self improvement? Studies show that 96% of people who try to better themselves, will fail.

96% of people fail!!

That means that of the billions of people in the world who wish for something better for themselves and their lives, only 4% will actually get it.

That’s a staggering number to me. Yet it makes complete sense because true change requires commitment.

Most people will never lose the weight, and that fact will actually have them gaining more!

Almost no one will get the financial stability they long for and will forever live paycheck to paycheck. 

They’ll spend every day dreaming and knowing, deep down, that it will always be a dream. Waking up every day to a life that seems increasingly like a nightmare by comparison.

Change isn’t easy. Change isn’t quick. Change isn’t cheap.

True change requires us to change from the inside out. It takes deciding that we’re ready to change and then doing anything it takes until we do.

Sometimes that change is simply about shifting our schedule to make the time for what we know will carry us into the life we truly want.

Sometimes, it takes asking for help. A truly difficult thing for a lot of us, I know.

Here’s the thing about that 4% though. They. Get. Help.

They don’t let pride, or guilt, or circumstances hold them back. If they don’t know something, they find the person who can teach them. If they don’t have the tools, they go out and invest in them.

This isn’t a question of motivation. We all have the motivation to live our best lives.

Yet when that motivation falters, that’s when the 4% seek out help. They refuse to settle. They refuse to fail.

So why aren’t we, as moms, allowing ourselves to get the help we need? I mean, we went through childbirth and raising tiny humans. The reality is, there’s nothing we can’t do.

We aren’t afraid of the hard stuff. We understand that it takes a village sometimes.

Where I think we fall short, is in accepting that we’re worth that same level of devotion we show to our kids and our families. 

Yet at the same time, we hope our children will know to ask for help when they need it. That they will live their best lives in any way possible. 

Shouldn’t we be modeling that though? Isn’t it insane to expect them to follow the example we aren’t setting?

See what I mean about doing the same things and expecting different results?

I get it, we’re all busy. We’re all just trying to do the best we can from one day to the next.
