Change And Sports Bras

Nov 07, 2024 4:33 am

Ok ,

I made this post on my socials recently, and it feels even more appropriate right now.

Change is like putting on a sports bra fresh out of the shower.

As I was facing this very same epic battle-for-the-ages this morning, I got to thinking about how similar the process is to change.

No really, hear me out on this.

We all go into it with the best of intentions.

It seems like a good idea at the time. We’ve had enough reasons leading up to that moment to motivate giving it a go, and we know the rewards on the other side will be worth it.

There's things we want to do that will be best served by just making it happen. We've done the work to prep ourselves for this. Why not, right?

Yet as soon as we stick our head and hands into the game...

...things start to get twisted.

There's resistance that we couldn't have anticipated. There's extra layers suddenly and they just won't be smoothed over.

There comes a point where it’s hard to breathe, and you can’t understand how it’s even possible for everything to be so turned around!

This is typically the stage where we start questioning all of our life choices.

It would be as painful (or more so) to back out now.

You know you’re committed. You either keep inching toward that end or give up entirely.

And honesty, it's as much a matter of pride as anything else at this point.

Eventually, there’s a moment where things finally slip into place, and you can breathe.

Then it’s just about adjusting things into the proper places to move on with the day.

All this bending and tugging and twisting and (let’s be honest here) cursing, eventually gives way as long as we push through the painful transition.

Or… we could ask a kind soul we trust to stick a finger in that back tangle and get us through it so much faster.

If you’re sick of struggling but know this is your time to get things into a supportive place where there's a lot less bouncing up and down, I got you.

You don't have to be alone in the change cycle equivalent of sliding spandex over wet skin.

It's ok to ask for help getting out of the twists and bunches so you can get on with your life that much faster and more supported.

Learn from my mistakes.

Truly, it's an honor to be in a position to share what pit falls I fell into and what I've discovered that actually works in getting back out.

In fact, you can listen to an incredibly deep conversation I got to have with the Mother and Son team on the Mental Health, It's a Trap podcast.
