Hello ,

Does this sound like a familiar story to you?

Sitting in the Zoom room with 90 people I didn't know, all there to network and further their businesses while the coordinator went through details for the upcoming breakout rooms.

A sense of impending dread began to form in my stomach and there was a brief moment where that big red 'Leave Meeting' button looked very tempting.

As an introvert and a mom, I had so many excuses I could have used to duck out of this experience. How exhausting it is to talk to people for more than a few minutes. The guilt for asking my husband and kids to leave me alone for hours. The imposter syndrome whispering that I had no business being in that room.

And the truth is, I've got a long track record I can point to around how ineffective it is to try and make connections with people.

You see, when I was growing up my family moved every year. I was always the 'new kid'. In fact, one grade I attended three different schools!

I got crazy good at making temporary connections that never lasted past the change of address. They also never made me feel very fulfilled either. In fact, I started to feel like I was so much a chameleon, that I didn't even know my true self.

So networking for my business can be a challenge for me to prioritize in structured settings. I feel like I'm right back in that school room waiting to be defined or rejected by a bunch of kids who've known each other all their lives.

As you can imagine, this kind of energy and approach to making connections with other people isn't a recipe for success. I had a choice in that moment.

I could let my past struggles and experiences define my present AND my future by giving into temptation and pushing that red button. Or maybe shrinking down in my seat, taking up less space, and giving very little of myself to the event.

OR!

I could flip the script. I could make a choice to be less defined by my past, less in love with the life I've already lived as the perpetual 'new kid'.

Instead I could choose to be defined by the future I'm creating in the now. I could tap into that 7-figure goddess I'm growing into and captivate every person I got to talk to while honoring them and their incredible gifts they were there to share.

I'm sure you can guess which choice I made and honestly, I'm still patting myself on the back for it because it's a testament to how far I've come. The incredible conversations I've had this entire week with those I've been following up with have me so inspired and lit up!

Even those I won't be working with immediately are filling my cup so much in surprising and wonderful ways! Others I can't wait to share with you and build more incredible things with soon!

NONE of this would have been possible if I'd stayed stuck in that old programing. In that assurance that because of how things used to be, I'd never find anyone who'd be interested in me or what I have to offer.

Now , I want to ask you if there are ways you're letting your past define you more than your future? Are you hitting that tempting red button in areas of your life right now?

There's no shame in it. Seriously. I'm not calling you out here. BUT...

I do want to invite you to consider another way of doing things. To be open to what could be possible if you let your future drive your present instead.
