My Rainy Beach Vaca Taught Me...
Aug 22, 2024 4:00 pm
I was not prepared for this .
Our family is heading home today after a week long stay at Ocean Shores, Washington. This is our annual summer beach trip and we all look forward to this.
We had some amazing plans for sun and sand!
We've been talking about them for weeks, brought all our sand toys, life jackets and swim suits. There are beach blankets, folding chairs, fluffy towels, shore side snacks!!
We take this stuff seriously.
Imagine my surprise when most of our stay happened to be during a summer storm?!
Our usual trip happens over labor day weekend, and often in this area it's already getting colder. I thought for sure this year we'd have some of those record highs we've been experiencing.
I mean it's mid-August. I didn't even pack myself a jacket for crying out loud.
With 3 kids all expecting to build sand castles and me ready to relax...
Just as the rains started! I had hoped they'd pass in a day or maybe we'd just get light sprinkles we could play through. But no.
It's been too cold and driving rains during the days when we hoped to be soaking up the surf. You can imagine all the long faces we had around here as we slowly accepted the inevitable.
It was not a week for sand castles.
I was reminded that life is full of choices.
We could spend the days feeling miserable and sorry for ourselves. Mope about because our plans were ruined and bemoan all the time and money wasted.
OR!!
Simply by reframing disappointment into excitement, we turned everything around.
That's right! It was up to me to set the tone for my kids because I know how powerful our perspective is. Instead of a ruined beach vacation that wasn't going to involve hours in the sun by the waves, we got to try something new!
I talked to the kids about the weather, why we couldn't safely do what we planned, and then shared how storms are the best time to find beach treasures!
Each kid got a ziplock bag and we went hunting for a while. When they got chills, we came back and warmed up with hot showers. Then we made smores on the porch grill and played board games as a family!
I'm going to treasure these memories and, judging by the smiles, so will they.
I'm soaking up so much gratitude for this priceless reminder.
We can allow circumstances to dictate our experience, or we can pick a perspective that embraces ALL the adventures life brings us.
Now it's your turn!!
I want to invite you to take advantage of this lesson I relearned - what's something you'd like to shift in your life?
How can you reframe a disappointment or frustration into something that serves you?
Could you use a little assistance with this?
I've got two amazing events to share with you and an offer that's still available.
This Saturday, August 24th at 11am PST I'll be hosting an intimate Intuitive Practice Circle live in Zoom. This is a powerful place to come explore your 6th senses with a supportive community that's there for you.
Then coming up on Wednesday September 4th at 5pm PST, you're invited to join me for the 90-minute Finding Your Path experiential masterclass. This transformative session will tap you into your soul aligned purpose and passion while giving you the tools needed to follow it freely.
If you're ready for some personal support, now's your time!
I still have a handful of spots on my calendar just for my email friends to claim a FREE Manifest Your Dreams session. This complimentary consult will give us a chance to chat about what your dreams are and I will share some resources on how to start making them come true!!
Remember, a rainy day can become a priceless adventure. It's all up to you!
