Hello ,

"There's only one truth. You're doing the devils work. Do you really want to burn in hell?"

This wasn't the first time I've had people challenge me about the work I do and openly reading Tarot. The two young men who approached me at an event openly named for witches were simply the most recent.

There are even members of my own family who believe what I do is evil.

At one time, the opinions of others would have truly bothered me.

I would have hidden away and maybe even felt shame for being different from those who speak their opinions so loudly.

For years, I kept my beliefs and practices to myself to avoid people's judgement and censure.

I was hiding myself rather than risk ruffling feathers.

Every conversation, the way I looked and acted, all of me was carefully crafted to avoid giving anyone extra reasons to single me out.

And you know what?

I was miserable.

Honestly, there was a time where I had zero idea of who I actually was any more. It felt like I'd gone beyond the survival skill of being a chameleon and had just lost myself.

And for what?!

All for the sake of not being thought of as different or odd or wrong? To try to avoid having family, friends, and complete strangers pass judgement on me?

It was exhausting and ultimately, totally unnecessary. You see, I learned something so freeing after more than 30 years of this way of living a half life.

Most people are too busy thinking about themselves to judge others.

Just because a few people decide to take issue with others for one reason or another, the vast majority of the billions of people are just trying to make it from one day to the next.

If they think about others at all, it's pretty fleeting and rarely half as bad as what our own internal critics are saying.

So what's the point in not being your true self?

There is none. It's completely pointless and painful to live as anything other than your authentic self. Even when you're faced with those who don't approve or understand or try to toss hate your way.

There is no braver act than to live openly as who you truly are.

I celebrate those who challenge me and throw contrast into my life, because they show me how far I've come from the girl who hid her tarot cards in a back drawer.

It is an honor and a privilege to say loud and proud...
