Imbolc is this Saturday!

Are you excited?! Feeling ready to celebrate? Or are you not even sure what I'm talking about?

On the Wheel of the Year, this marks the beginning of the light's return.

There's no denying, this has been a different kind of winter season. While in my area, this weekend will be bringing the first snow we've seen, it is in fact a time when we honor the first stirrings of spring.

Some of the things Imbolc stands for are...

This is a celebration of the goddess Brigid and it is a festival of renewal, fire, and fertility. A time when we mark the midway point between the darkest part of winter's long nights and the oncoming longer days and brighter light.

Now more than ever it is an excellent time to celebrate these elements.

A lot of people are feeling the strain of everything from natural disasters to the division of communities. There's no question, it is a time of high contrast.

With Imbolc coming just days after the Lunar new year and the Aquarius new moon, now is a perfect time to light our own inner fire and begin to work on renewal.

Traditional ways to honor this time include:

• Light candles or a bonfire
• Feast on seasonal foods including diary and grains
• Make Brigid's Crosses
• Plant the first seeds
• Cleanse yourself and your spaces
• Journal your intentions for the coming season

Most years, I will bake fairy cakes and plant some seeds before doing a reading by candle light. This year though, I'm going to be joining with the PNW Witches' Market at their Imbolc Festival!
