🍩 Good day, Donuts!
Today I want to make a mid-month update about my niche website case study, and I have to make one announcement regarding my business life.
Goldie is very excited too.
Mid-month niche website project update
As my monthly update is due in two weeks, I thought it would motivate you to show you what happened with the site in May (22 days).
In April, I finished the month with nearly 1400 keywords, according to Ahrefs.
Today, the 23rd of May, I am sitting at 1700 keywords that my website is ranking for. And most probably at the end of the month, I will be sitting at a lot more keywords.
I expect some keywords-bleeding to occur (the process when you gain keywords very fast, and then you start losing some of them, which is a natural cycle). However, I am pretty confident that the avalanche + KGR strategy results in a stronger topical relevance for Google.
While I still target longtail keywords with a volume between 10-50 searches per month, I can see that I have entered the top 10 with some big-volume keywords, which are indirectly targeted through the low-volume longtail keywords.
At this point, I will keep producing more content following the same avalanche strategy.
Also, I made two changes, which I think helped with the crawling of the new content.
1) I've noticed that some of my categories were set as index and some as no-index. As I don't have that many categories and I don't plan to add many more, I have set all categories as do-follow and index.
2) I have created more landing pages for the category archives. Aka, instead of leaving the category pages (archive pages) as they are displayed by default, I have created specific landing pages for each category. Then, I redirected the old category pages to the new ones and set them as do-follow and index.
I am not sure if this will "rob" my crawling budget, but so far, I think that I see a boost in keywords' growth because of these two changes.
Let me know if anyone has any real case experience with categories being set as no-index/no-follow or index/follow.
Work Announcement/Business Life Update
Some of my friends have already seen that I co-founded (with three business friends) a small investment fund for Bulgarian startups earlier this year. The fund is called foundersgate.space. Its purpose is to fund only Bulgarian-based startups, producing physical products. Thus the content is only in Bulgarian.
This all means that I may have less time to write marketing articles and tutorials, but I will try to keep up with my business as usual. I will keep writing this newsletter and keep working on my niche website project.
However, this change made me realize one thing about the niche website project, which I plan to sell for at least 1 million donut$, as I have already announced. So far, I had some anxious moments regarding the project because, somewhat each month, I feel obliged to demonstrate traffic and income growth. I felt like I have to sprint each month so that I can grow and sell the site as soon as possible. I genuinely feel rushed by myself.
Yesterday, I took a moment to think about my work on this project. I won't rush, and I won't sprint. I want this project to be my investment today, for my future early retirement (if you don't know, I am a big fan of the FIRE movement). I don't want to hate my work regarding this website because of my destructive nature regarding immediate results - here and right now.
I want it all (affluence and influence), but I better want it slow (so I don't end up hating it). I am committed to this project, but not at the expense of mental health and health in general.
I am learning to be wiser.
Enjoy the day!
Own your future, Friends!
