September 12th Perc.U.lations featuring Aloma Davis

Be there or be prose!

Greetings all Perc.U.lators!

Welcome back! Our September Poetry and Spoken Word event will be held on Saturday the 12th at Dandenong Library, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

If you'd like to attend the poetry workshop beforehand, I'll be holding it in the library to avoid the winter weather. The workshop will start at 1 pm and last until 2 pm. At that point, I'll be setting up the event space on the library's ground floor.

Do consider wandering past The Nong Cafe for a quick bite or a takeaway coffee! There are other great food and drink venues around as well.

Let's make September sensational!

This September, Aloma Davis returns to feature.

Aloma (they/she) writes pieces concerned with kindness and whimsy. Despite their best efforts, birds frequently fly into their poems.

This year, Aloma was privileged to be shortlisted for the Newcastle Poetry Prize and the Heroines Women's Writing Prize.

Aloma divides their time between living in Melbourne/Naarm, Australia, and living in their head, where they have a library with one of those sliding ladders, Haast's eagle as a pet, and work-life balance.

Additional information

There is free, paid and accessible parking around the library, and the Dandenong Train Station is quite close as well.

The Dandenong Library is a public space, and many young people and families visit on the weekend. Therefore, open-mic and feature presenters are asked to keep their works in the 'G' to 'PG' range for this event.

Perc.U.lations will abide by the Greater City of Dandenong's REACH values: Respectful, Engaged, Accountable, Creative and Honest. If you aren't certain that your work is appropriate for this space, please approach me beforehand.

Perc.U.lations is affiliated with Radio Laria and is committed to highlighting the voices of local women and gender-diverse poets, and other marginalised voices.

Perc.U.lations is taking place on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation. Sovereignty was never ceded, and we extend our respect.

Be there or be prose!

Hugs,
anke
