June 13th - Perc.U.lations - featuring Jaap Singh

Come to the Dandenong Library for some Winter Words and Warmth

Hi all Perc.U.lators!

Greetings all Perc.U.lators!

Welcome to our second event in our new home in the Dandenong Library. There is both free and paid parking around the library, and the Dandenong Train Station is quite close as well.

Our Poetry and Spoken Word events will be held there on the second Saturday of each month from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

If you'd like to attend the poetry workshop beforehand, I'll be holding it in the library to avoid the winter weather. The workshop will start at 1pm and last until 2 pm. At that point, I'll be setting up the event space on the library's ground floor.

Do consider wandering past The Nong Cafe for a quick bite before 2 pm or a takeaway coffee! There are other great food and drink venues around as well.

Let's make June joyous!

Our feature this May is Jaap Ardas Singh!

Jaap Ardas began writing in early 2019. Since then, he has been slowly immersing himself in poetry and the poetry scene, filled with many great voices in Melbourne.

He likes to write poems about life, nature, spirituality and the common human experience in its various forms. Jaap Ardas is also a numerologist, kundalini yoga teacher and food gardener, and these fields influence his poetry. He also often writes poems to help him understand his own feelings and decipher what life is trying to teach him.

His appreciation of poetry lies in listening to others as well, as he feels it helps him better understand life/himself.

Additional Information:

The Dandenong Library is a public space, and many young people and families visit on the weekend. Therefore, open-mic and feature presenters are asked to keep their works in the 'G' to 'PG' range for this event.

Perc.U.lations will abide by the Greater City of Dandenong's REACH values:

R-espectful

E-ngaged

A-ccountable

C-reative

H-onest

If you aren't certain that your work is appropriate for this space, please approach me beforehand.

Perc.U.lations is affiliated with Radio Laria and is committed to highlighting the voices of local women and gender-diverse poets, and other marginalised voices.

Perc.U.lations is taking place on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation. Sovereignty was never ceded, and we extend our respect to all Indigenous elders past, present, and emerging as well as all First Nations Peoples.

Let's warm up winter with our words!

Be there, or be prose... 😉
