Fragrances are not good for us

Hi!

I just received this article in my inbox from Dhru Purohit's latest newsletter. I wanted to share because I think this is a "toxin" we don't often think about.

Here are a few highlights from his article, but you can read all of it here.

Fragrances are being called the “new secondhand smoke,” and for good reason.

For one, they are in EVERYTHING—I’m talking beyond traditional uses like in perfumes and air fresheners.

And two, artificial fragrances are incredibly complex. The number of different chemicals in a fragrance can reach over 3,000…. And get this: they don’t have to be disclosed on the label. 🤯

We’ll peel back the layers on that in just a sec, but here’s what we know from decades of research: the chemicals in fragrances can disrupt our hormones, are known to create oxidative stress, can cause headaches, low mood, breathing problems, and can tank our productivity.

Here’s a list of some of the top sources of fragrance in our lives:

  • Perfume/cologne/body spray
  • Scented candles
  • Air fresheners (car, home, plug-ins)
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Soap (dish, hand, body)
  • Laundry detergent/dryer sheets
  • Personal care products (moisturizer, face wash, deodorant)
  • Cosmetics

I now try to purchase fragrance-free soaps and cleaners or those scented with natural essential oils. I recommend using EWG.org to see a product's rating for toxic ingredients.

We are already living in a toxic soup, so anything we can do to decrease the burden on our system is helpful.

Also, here's a link to a recent talk I did on cancer. It explores the idea that we've been going down the wrong path for treatments and prevention.

Wishing you health, peace, and happiness,

Tina
