Hi all,

It's been a while but there are so many things I want to share...

Let's start with this eye-opening article from Dr. Greenblatt at Psychiatry Redefined.

More functional medicine approaches like metabolic psychiatry are taking off! Studies are showing that "mental health symptoms have numerous physiological causes. Nutrient deficiencies, hormonal status, inflammation, infections, food allergies, toxicities, the microbiome and other “test-able” factors that can measured, have a powerful influence on mental health. In many cases, these underlying factors cause or contribute significantly to a patient’s symptoms."

What does this mean for the average person struggling because their antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, or therapy are just not doing enough? Instead, it can be worth exploring working with a functional medicine practitioner who will run blood and urine tests to understand what is out of balance in your body.

Here are some resources to get you started. One of the newest books making waves is Chris Palmer’s Brain Energy. I also follow Psychiatry Redefined with James Greenblatt and the Walsh Institute with William Walsh and his book Nutrient Power.

Dr. Walsh and Dr. Greenblatt also have directories of their trained practitioners here and here.

The more I learn about the latest science on chronic disease, the more I realize that everything is connected. We can't just focus on one system, one aspect of our health to "fix" our health.
