I’m writing to remind you that your friendly editor began collecting Goldbacks several years ago. Back then, only a few state series were available, and there were no quarter or half Goldbacks. Consequently, my Goldback notes are from the initial runs. However, they still contain the same amount of Gold as new, shiny Goldbacks, which is what truly matters.

I finally had the opportunity to hold a quarter Goldback note in person, and it enhanced my enthusiasm for Goldbacks. Introducing the quarter Goldbacks (and halves too) was a brilliant decision; they’re compact, neat, and adorable! They’re slightly smaller than a standard 2’ x 3’ business card. I believe the introduction of quarters and halves is paving the way for Goldbacks to reach a wider audience.
However, the price of a single Goldback, around $10 USD, has created a psychological barrier for people when presenting them. It’s like if you visited a boardwalk or Main Street, and everything started at $10 USD. You might think, “This place is too expensive for me to afford anymore!” That’s how people felt about Goldbacks, at the $8 and $10 USD each point.

This time around, I’m not going to give away Goldbacks as tips anymore. After giving away 1 GB notes for a few years and stopping when the price of Goldbacks went over $5 USD, I realized that this approach is mostly fruitless. Instead, when I make a genuine connection with someone who genuinely seems interested in Goldbacks, I might pull out a quarter Goldback note and give it to them.
