Hi
Ref: Enfield Council’s Selective Licensing
We write to inform you of an important regulatory update affecting landlords with properties located in the London Borough of Enfield.
On 22 April 2026, the Council approved a new Selective Licensing scheme, which is scheduled to come into force on 1 September 2026, replacing the current scheme upon its expiry.
The new scheme will apply to privately rented residential properties occupied by one or two individuals, or single-family households, within the designated wards specified in the Council’s official designation notice.
The purpose of this scheme is allegedly to improve housing standards and strengthen the management of privately rented accommodation, with a particular focus on properties let to single households. The Council’s objective is to ensure safer, better maintained, and more effectively managed housing for tenants within the borough.
If you currently hold a valid licence, this will remain in force until its stated expiry date. There is no immediate requirement to take action until renewal becomes due under the new scheme.
Further details regarding application procedures, eligibility, potential discounts, and full scheme guidance are available via the Council’s website:

Should you require clarification on whether your property falls within the scope of the scheme, you may contact the Council directly at: [email protected]
We recommend that all affected members review the scheme carefully and take appropriate steps to ensure compliance ahead of the implementation date.
