Hey Ho, Tenebrous Cult!

Travel week for both of us coming up, so most likely there will be no newsletters either next week or the following. If you're looking for someplace to get your fill of Team Tenebrous:

MEET US IN THE VOID

image

I've never been to Gettysburg; and Alex's view of the U.S. is pretty much "Portland with a bunch of even more unhinged shit surrounding it" (I'm fine perpetuating that one, tbh). It'll be interesting to sling Weird Horror in the place that represents the bloodiest and most consequential moments of the Civil War, that doesn't seem particularly relevant today, no, why do you ask?

You can find out more here, and we hope you'll join us! The Void Collective are some of our favorite people, rowdy and authentic and accepting; just our type of heathens. Hope to see you there, if you're within traveling distance.

SPLIT SCREAM COVER ART REVEALED...AND IT'S EXTRA CURSED!

image

Artist Evangeline Gallagher works their magic afresh with this eighth (!!!) volume of the SPLIT SCREAM twin-novelette series. The theme this time around is Cursed Places, and features two seriously twisted stories.

First, in Sonora Taylor's Passing Glance: Washington, D.C.’s sprawling and storied Moore Mansion is built upon intrigue and secrecy, playing host to both political elites and the merely curious alike. Its labyrinthine rooms and passageways, festooned in eclectic art and mysterious mirrors, captivate all who explore them.

Dylan arrives at the mansion for her friend’s 30th birthday party at a crossroads of her own: adrift, eager to reunite with old friends, and seeking to rekindle a long-held lust for one of the group. But tonight she will discover the true terrifying secrets of Moore Mansion: a house built to be a city, and one which unfolds like a trap.

And in Lash Egg by Matthew Pritt : The people of the Doe’s country walk in the Balance, attuned to the land and guided by their benevolent nature spirit. For Ben, a refugee who narrowly escaped the madness-infested Bear’s country to the south, the Doe remains a mystery. Ben has never heard the Doe speak, and marvels at his neighbors’ firsthand experiences with his new home’s Protector. Fortunately his ten-year-old daughter, Lydia, doesn’t share his struggles, and adapts to life in the Doe with ease.

But when a mysterious wasting plague attacks the local wildlife, Ben suspects he is the cause of it. As the plague spreads and threatens to collapse the Doe’s entire ecosystem, Ben must discover how he has offended the Doe, or risk losing the only safe place he and his daughter have ever known.

“A gorgeously unsettling treat…I can’t recommend this enough.”

  • Michael Boulerice, FEEDING THE WHEEL

“Takes you to wrong places where the very ground under your feet threatens to betray you and there is really, truly, nowhere to run. If you imprinted on Silent Hill in the late 90's the way I did, these stories will remind you why.”

  • M.Shaw, Wonderland Award Winner, ONE HAND TO HOLD, ONE HAND TO CARVE

SPLIT SCREAM: CURSED PLACES is coming in April, 2026.

And Speaking of M.Shaw...

The very first Tenebrous novella release was their incredible ONE HAND TO HOLD, ONE HAND TO CARVE, which went on to win the Wonderland Award for Best Novel in 2023.

Well, M.Shaw has been nominated for another Wonderland Award this year—this time for Best Collection—for this volume of Weird, visceral, heartbreaking, damn-near-impossible-to-describe stories:

Bloody f&%king hell, it's that time of year already?! It is indeed. For the entire month of October, submissions are open for BRAVE NEW WEIRD: THE BEST NEW WEIRD HORROR (+ More) Volume Four.

For those unfamiliar: this is open to any short fiction **previously published, but not by us, between the 31st of October 2024 and the 31st of October 2025**.

I wrapped up the cover art for Volume Four last week; we'll be revealing it soon!

But for now, here are a couple sketch concepts that DID NOT MAKE THE CUT because Alex said they "look like a f&%king Hot Wheels ad, christ on a bike."

And then she cursed at me a whole bunch in Romanian and sent this back as her new cover suggestion.
