We were passingly familiar with a few of these creators by name—and six of them appeared in one form or another in this book's spiritual sibling and predecessor, YOUR BODY IS NOT YOUR BODY—but we're delighted that the lions' share are brand new, even to us! It remains one of our central tenets to elevate new names in the realms of Weird fiction; and with the world continuing its assault on a swath of humanity that strives simply to exist on the same level playing field as everyone else, hearing from these voices is more critical than ever.
Proceeds from YOUR BODY IS A FEVER DREAM will go to the Trans Legal Services Network and Trans Doe Task Force. It's scheduled for release on October 6th.
Did we mention you can preorder it now?
Go do it, and then prepare your mind for the Weird Cosmic Awakening to come.
IS IT AN ILLUSTRATED NOVELLA? IS IT A GRAPHIC NOVEL? IT'S CARL ANTONOWICZ'S THE WRECK AND ASCENSION OF THE GOOD SHIP YANQUI, AND IT'S COMING IN 2027
We are seemingly incapable of playing anything straightforward. Why should our first venture into a fully illustrated book be any different?!
If you've read a Tenebrous title before, you know that every one of them—aside from BRAVE NEW WEIRD—is lovingly illustrated by some of our favorite people in the business.
THE WRECK & ASCENSION OF THE GOOD SHIP YANQUI is something else entirely. Carl is a comics monster, and...well, let's just share a tease of what you're in for:
...yeeeeeeah this book's gonna slay on the open seas.
THE WRECK & ASCENSION OF THE GOOD SHIP YANQUI is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2027. Avast ye scurvy dogs or something!
SPLIT SCREAM is out April 21st, and You. Are. CURSED.
In just three weeks, SPLIT SCREAM returns from its yearlong slumber with two New Weird Horror novelettes to chill your guts and scar your mind!
First up, from two-time Ladies of Horror Award Winner and BRAVE NEW WEIRD recipient Sonora Taylor comes a nightmarish journey through a dark mirror in the horny-n-horrific "Passing Glance":
Washington, D.C.’s sprawling and storied Moore Mansion is built upon intrigue and secrecy, playing host to both political elites and the merely curious alike. Its labyrinthine rooms and passageways, festooned in eclectic art and mysterious mirrors, captivate all who explore them.
Dylan arrives at the mansion for her friend’s 30th birthday party at a crossroads of her own: adrift, eager to reunite with old friends, and seeking to rekindle a long-held lust for one of the group. But tonight she will discover the true terrifying secrets of Moore Mansion: a house built to be a city, and one which unfolds like a trap.
Then, Matthew Pritt takes you to a grim Weird second-world fantasy where environmental collapse has taken on a new horrific form, in "Lash Egg":
The people of the Doe’s country walk in the Balance, attuned to the land and guided by their benevolent nature spirit. For Ben, a refugee who narrowly escaped the madness-infested Bear’s country to the south, the Doe remains a mystery. Ben has never heard the Doe speak, and marvels at his neighbors’ firsthand experiences with his new home’s Protector. Fortunately his ten-year-old daughter, Lydia, doesn’t share his struggles, and adapts to life in the Doe with ease.
But when a mysterious wasting plague attacks the local wildlife, Ben suspects he is the cause of it. As the plague spreads and threatens to collapse the Doe’s entire ecosystem, Ben must discover how he has offended the Doe, or risk losing the only safe place he and his daughter have ever known.
These are not places of honor...these places are Cursed!
“Propulsive, delightfully entertaining, and deeply disturbing”

REEF MIND by Hazel Zorn is coming to your earballs courtesy of Haruspex Audio!
Rain Corbyn has been entangled in the Tenebrous family for a while now; in fact, their first publishing credit was actually in the above-mentioned YOUR BODY IS NOT YOUR BODY anthology, and they've been an active and vocal member of our Discord server for years.
But by day, Rain has carved a swath through the indie publishing world not only as an author, but also as a badass audiobook narrator and voice actor, working with authors like Edward Lee and Judith Sonnet, publishers like Weirdpunk and Madness Heart...and now Tenebrous!
Haruspex Audio, the full-service audiobook label founded by Rain, is a welcome, artist-friendly alternative to the predatory, exclusionary terms of Audible and its kin. It offers DRM-free listening that buyers own outright (no corporation suddenly deleting an audiobook that you've already paid for!) and exponentially more profits go straight to the artists involved.
REEF MIND, Hazel Zorn's sensational eco-body horror novella, goes on sale April 14th, and is available to preorder now! And follow Haruspex on Instagram to keep up with their adventures. This is something that is sorely needed in the indie publishing landscape and I can't wait to see them soar.
FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS: CARSON WINTER GOES WEIRD SWORD & SORCERY WITH THE CORPSE PRIEST
Carson writes:
Hello, Tenebrous Cult! I’m the guy who wrote the Wonderland Award-nominated SOFT TARGETS; A SPECTRE IS HAUNTING GREENTREE; and one half of both POSTHASTE MANOR and SPLIT SCREAM: VOL. ONE. I’ve got a new book coming out tomorrow: the sword and sorcery/cosmic horror mashup,THE CORPSE PRIEST.
The Pitch:
Corpse is a priest who spreads a doctrine of death.
When he begins to question the teachings of his tribe, he travels to Dross Toll—a city under the tyrannical rule of a vicious count.
But outside the city, a tower of flesh pulses. Reality bends and breaks. And soon he will find that there are greater horrors than a noble’s rage.
This project was a sort of creative experiment that arose from a hyperfixation on the idea of a Ligottian fantasy that led to me thinking more about the sword and sorcery genre—the stuff I liked, the stuff I didn’t, and how I could better mold it to my tastes. The result is a novella that I think is as much a horror story as it is a fantasy one, with lots of blood, guts, lore, and threatening realities.
Because I worked with Salt Heart Press, I also got to once again do the art for this release—a process that I’m finding more and more fulfilling with each book. So, please, reach out to me and tell me how cool it is to be a FUCKING DIY MACHINE!
If you're in the US, I can send you a signed copy if you buy from my website! And if you're the type who's more into the digital life, well, that's cool too! I've got ebooks for all!
And if neither of those work for you, you can buy The Corpse Priest wherever you normally buy books too.
I have no doubt I'm forgetting seven other things I'm supposed to tell you about, but they're just gonna have to wait.
This coming weekend we'll be tabling at Norwescon for the first time, where Koji A. Dae's CASUAL is up for the Philip K. Dick Award!
Koji is gonna be in attendance too, so if you're not doing anything better...then why the hell don't you come out and hang with us in Seattle?
Hail Indie Publishing.
Hail New Weird Horror (+ More!)
Hail the Tenebrous Cult.
