Hey Ho, Tenebrous Cult!
Halloween Week is upon us! YOUR BODY IS A FEVER DREAM has been unleashed into the atmosphere, revealing all manner of New Weird Cosmic Horrors & Wonders. We're less than a month from Allison Mick's punk-schlock masterpiece—and Library-Journal-starred-reviewed!—DIVE escaping containment (more on that below).
If you were at all concerned that we might slow our roll with the New Weird Horror (+ More) offerings in 2027, let's just put those concerns to rest: we've got suburban Body Horror satire, street kids battling for survival against a living rotting city, Queer Post-Apocalyptic Necromancy, dawn-of-the-20th-century puzzle boxes, transgressive cryptid ownership, the world's-most-fucked-up-AirBnb, and more:
We may still have another surprise or two coming atcha in 2027, but we don't wanna shoehorn anything else in until we're confident we'll be able to deliver. So as it stands, the above list will comprise the 2027 Tenebrous Book Club**.
Subscriptions will open up on Black Friday; and over the coming month we're gonna dig in and share the dirt on every friggin' one of these Weird-ass-bad-ass books. There ain't a one you'll wanna miss.
**and to our wonderful 2026 Book Clubbers: you've already pre-purchased WE ARE GOOD PEOPLE on last year's subscription; we moved it to a release date in 2027 at the request of our distributor, but you WILL be receiving it as part of your current subscription, and if you choose to re-up for next year, we'll be sending you a link to sub to the 2027 list at a discounted rate.
2027 Book Club subscriptions will be available in print+eBook or eBook-only options; print subscribers will receive a signed bookplate for each title, and all shipping costs are included in the price.
More on all of this next month. But you know what else is coming next month? DIVE.
You're gonna love DIVE so much. And it just...couldn't care less, man. DIVE'll stomp you down & steal your wallet even as you keep begging for it to love you back.
F'real. And it's not just us saying it. Library Journal tried to buy it a drink and DIVE poured it on their shoes. Our good bud at Books for Decaying Millennials wrote a song for DIVE and got spit on for his troubles.
I'm telling you, DIVE is out of control. Unruly, even. A problem child. But goddamn is it a great book.
DRINK UP WITH THE DREAMERS, THE DESPERATE, AND THE DAMNED
Welcome to The Liz: a legendary Oakland punk bar with a fiercely loyal clientele of skull-cracked musicians, aspiring comedians, fans, hangers-on, and vampires.
Learn its sordid history; set some banks on fire; skirt a little too close to radical new film technology; volunteer for experiments that make you physically crave art-and the people who make it; and hear the joke that kills every cop who hears it (don’t worry, you'll be fine, we think).
Author & comedian Allison Mick guides you through interconnected horror stories alternately gross, funny, and heartbreaking, and shows you why every story in The Liz makes a killing.

“Mick’s prose drips with the urgency of a newly converted punk rocker while still capturing the malaise of an older generation choking on an immutable world gone mad.”
Jacy Morris, We Like it Cherry, One Shot
“A vivid, nasty trip so dank that you'll feel like you're snorting blow off the seat of the men's room toilet (complimentary)."
Bitter Karella, Moonflow
“Fantastic…a great collection of Weird tales [and] an utterly original portrayal of the outsider art scene. Tantalizing and transgressive…a must read by an author on the rise.”
Library Journal, starred review
DIVE is out November 17th. No matter how hard you scrub, those stains won't come out. And for the love of all that is (un)holy, do not open the maroon door.
LOOKING BACK AT '26: KAYAK
Much like...every year going back most of this decade, this one has seemed simultaneously two centuries and four hours long.
But we are unbelievably proud of the Weirdness we've unleashed on you this year, and over the next few weeks we'll take a peek back at the shenanigans that we've gotten up to in 2026.
Last winter we kicked things off with Kristal Stittle's epic KAYAK, which mashed together survival horror, alien invasion and a heartbreaking coming-of-age story in the rivers and wilds of rural Canada.
About KAYAK:
For eighteen-year-old Keith-floating alone on a series of lakes and rivers, lost and without supplies-his kayak is his means of survival. Solid ground means certain death at the scissor-claws of vicious invading creatures.
What he needs is to find more people; but terrible guilt anchors him in solitude. A year earlier, when the creatures first appeared, it was Keith's choices that brought disaster to the island community that took him in.
Now, it's time to take responsibility for his actions, heal his scars, and survive.
Told in two alternating timelines, Kayak is a story of family, the strength we draw from others, and the strength we learn to draw from ourselves.

We've got a very different strain of Horror coming from Stittle in '27—THE DEVIL'S ADDRESS, out next Halloween, part of 2027's Book Club nudge nudge!—but if you haven't read KAYAK yet, this is the perfect season to get caught up on her Tenebrous work.

What are you gonna be for Halloween, Cult? Us, we're going way outside our comfort zone and dressing up as respectable publishing types; trust us, it looks even scarier from inside the costume!

Hail Indie Publishing.
Hail New Weird Horror (+ More!)
