A Guide to Using Retinol

Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that you can obtain over the counter. Retinol is popular for its ability to gently exfoliate the skin, promote skin cell turnover, and enhance collagen production. Retinol is also used to treat sun damage, hyperpigmentation, acne, and more.

Benefits of Retinol may include:

  • Reduced signs of wrinkling & fine lines
  • Reduced hyperpigmentation
  • Reduced acne
  • Even Skin Texture
  • Collagen Stimulation

Before beginning Retinol, ask your dermatologist if it is the right treatment for you!

How to Use Retinol

We recommend applying retinol at night due to sunlight having an impact on the effectiveness of the product.

  1. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove the dirt and oils from the day.
  2. Dry your face completely and apply a pea sized amount all over your face.
  3. Wait a few minutes to give the retinol time to be absorbed into your skin and then apply a moisturizer.

Bonus tip: Be sure to wear sunscreen daily as your skin's sensitivity to sunlight may increase with use of retinol.

How Often to Use Retinol

If you are a beginner, you should start off by using retinol two to three times a week. As your skin builds up a tolerance to the retinol, you may gradually increase until you are using it nightly. Reduce your use of retinol if you are experiencing a lot of noticeable peeling and redness.
