Systems > Goals

Whats up.

Instead of setting a goal and chasing it, set a goal, build a system around it, and plug yourself in.

Ok I know goals are important and everything, but hear me out on this one.

Any driven individual that has been involved in anything somewhat meaningful in life has learned the importance of goal setting. We are taught to make it specific, achievable, measurable, and to have a timeframe. We then plan our days each day to accomplish our goals that we have set. This does work....until we get discouraged.

For me, discouragement comes because the results aren't there. I am working out hard, where is my six pack? I am making trades in the markets, where is my cash flow? All of the sudden, I slack on what I set out to do. I then double my efforts the next day to get back on track. Now working towards my goals is such a chore. I start to beat myself up because I haven't made any progress. Not to mention, it has turned into an emotional rollercoaster that hasn't produced any real results and the thought of performing gives me anxiety.

I have been able to beat all of the above with systems. It is important that a system makes the accomplishment our goals the default. This is important because we don't have to decide everyday what we have to do, all we have to do is wake up, plug ourselves into the system, and watch the results come in. Our actions no longer are not a function of how we feel at any given moment.

For example, instead of waking up and thinking about getting a six pack, we would design a daily routine that someone with a six pack would follow. What are the actions they would do everyday? Instead of thinking about how to make a million dollars each month, what daily system do those that make a million dollars a month follow? What have they been doing everyday for the last ten years?

For myself as a private capital fund manager, I have big goals. I want to form Orndorff Capital, LLC and manage $100M by the time I turn 30 on 5/18/2025. I am so far away, but I have studied those that do what I want to do and created a system to plug myself into that will take me there. Everyday I increase my education, analyze the markets, review all my trades, and place two to three new trades. It is crazy what I have learned, how I have improved, and what I have accomplished over the last 6 months just by following that simple system. Now, I feel weird if that little routine doesn't happen during my day. As I learn more, I am sure my system will grow with me.

I invite you to take your big goals and turn them into a system. It should be simple and easy. The first day you should be dying for the next day to come because it was so easy and exciting. Do less than you want to each day at the beginning. Design it so that you could do it everyday for the rest of your life. Someone wise did say once that "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass". Once you have your system, just wake up everyday and plug yourself in! When things get hard, plug yourself in. When things are easy, plug yourself in. When you don't want to work, plug yourself in. When you can't wait to work, plug yourself in. When you plug yourself in, just plug yourself in. This is the secret of those that consistently perform at a high level for years at a time.

Remember, all you have to do is plug yourself in.
