Good Morning! Here's an anomaly in the market. In six days' time, not a single Porsche will cross the online auction block. A first since this newsletter's inception. But there will be plenty to talk about pre-Amelia Island, so do not fret! There is always enough action to fill a daily newsletter when it comes to Porsche.

The GT4 market remains steady with the sale of this latest 718 Cayman GT4. Finished in Python Green with Black Leather and Race-Tex, our Spotlight car features a PDK transmission, PCCB Brakes, Full Bucket Seats, BOSE, a host of yellow accents in the interior, and an aftermarket Akrapovic exhaust. With just shy of 1,300 miles, the car sold for $270 below its MSRP at $130,000 yesterday on Bring a Trailer.
While most 2021/2022 models aside from GT 911s have fallen below MSRP, the 718 GT4 has hovered close in recent months with most recent sales falling a couple of thousand dollars above or below MSRP depending on mileage. So what gives?
For one, allocations are still hard to come by, but that is true for most other new Porsche Sports Cars. But unlike the 911, the 718 platform is set to phase out the gasoline engine in favor of batteries after this generation. So if you won't already have an allocation, I suggest you get one.
But let's say you have your allocation and it's time to spec your car. Thanks to supply chain uh-ohs you currently can't option your car like the one we have here today. You want PCCBs? Not an option. Full Sport Buckets? Nope. All of the options that make this a track weapon are not currently available. So if you really really want those yellow brake calipers and body-hugging seats, pre-owned is your only option.
With the availability of cars and popular options in short supply, this GT4 was well-bought at $130k. The buyer got to skip the line, get the options they wanted, and get a free Akrapovic exhaust as icing on the cake. The seller made out here as well as they got to enjoy the car for 1,300 miles and come out losing a few hundred dollars, taxes, and fees.
NOTEWORTHY SALES
- The last six months haven't been kind to the 997.1 GT3 RS as the majority of cars have sold below the $245,000 moving average. Yesterday, two non-Weissach examples sold, the first a delivery mileage example for $237,000 and the second, an 8,000-mile example for $212,000. Will it be long before we see these dip below $200k?
- Finished in Viper Green and featuring a worked 3.2L flat-six and a whole host of other goodies, this 1977 911S Coupe sold on the lower end of modded S' at $115,930. Well bought for a decade of someone else's hard work.
NEW LISTINGS
- The last time we saw this 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster it was sporting an older respray in Red and a 40-year-old engine rebuild. It sold in June of 2021 for $225,000. Now this Speedster, after a complete refurbishment, wears a lovely shade of Oslo Blue over Red with Blue Plaid inserts and a newly refurbished engine. Let's see if the work was worth it.
- After a number of Carrera GTs with repaints and higher miles ran through the January auctions in Arizona, we now have a low mileage, original paint 2005 Porsche Carrera GT offered at the Broad Arrow Auctions Amelia Island sale. This will be the first solid car to cross the block in 2023 so will be a good indicator of where the market stands.
- Most 964 Turbos we've seen of late have been later models and plenty of Slant Noses. But this final year 3.3-liter 1992 911 Turbo looks to be a "normal" pristine example with only 18,000 miles. Plus it looks stunning in Grand Prix White over Black leather. This would be the one for us.
