- Not a terrible total dollar volume considering only a dozen cars ended over the weekend with 8 of them finding new homes. But don't expect the next two weekends to remain quiet. This weekend is GAA's February sale followed by four different sales at Amelia Island this year as Broad Arrow Auctions takes over as the official auction of the event.

It pays to come to an auction prepared to answer questions and provide as much media as possible as online auctions have bidders far and wide with at least a week to gather information prior to the final hours of bidding. And when the seller is MIA, those final-hour bidders are also MIA. This 1967 912 Soft-Window Targa failed to sell on Bring a Trailer over the weekend at a high bid of $59,000, which was placed hours before the end of the sale.
While the seller-provided plenty of photos pre and post-restoration, a recent cold startup video and driving video would have helped for sure. Also missing were answers to important questions such as the originality of the engine and transmission and corresponding numbers as well as the availability of factory parts missing from the car.
Had bidders had their answers, numbers matched, and original parts available with the sale, this car would have seen another $20,000 in bids for sure. But with only part of the picture shared by the seller on this older restoration (which he performed, mind you), $59,000 was a strong number. If you want all the money, you better be prepared to work for it in this market.
NOTEWORTHY SALES
- We always love a good project here, especially when it's a Targa and even more so when it's an S. At $61,500, the new owner of this 1973 911S Targa better get used to an open checkbook for the next few years. Expect to put in at least another $100k to get her up to club concours level.
- This GT-style, flat-six-powered 1972 914 track car looks like a blast for DE days. The only problem was the car is being sold out of Oslo, Norway, which most likely accounted for the $40,000 sale price. Well below what a 914-6 track car trades at here in the States.
- It seems that the 993 Carrera 4S market is softening just a tad as this 1996 example with 55,000 miles sold for $130,000 over the weekend. 12 months ago we saw $10k more for a 60,000-mile example and almost $40k more for a 45k-mile example. Don't expect them to fall too far though as the last 90 days have been steady in the $130k range.
NEW LISTINGS
- Last sold in January of 2019 for $25,000, this 1961 Porsche-Diesel Junior 108 Tractor looks like it's still ready for use with its roll bar, side-mounted jump seat, and sickle bar mower.
- It will be interesting to see how much deleting the AC affects this 2003 Boxster S 6-Speed. It wasn't stripped out to turn it into a track car so the question remains as to why. Either way 90,000 miles on the odometer will make this Guards Red example a deal.
- GAA kicks off their February sale this week with this 1996 911 Targa finished in Arena Red over Gray. This original owner car has 52,000 miles but, and it's a big but, it's fitted with an automatic transmission. Which is a far cry from today's PDK and even the Tiptronic of the 996s.
