To Pay MSRP or Not MSRP, That Is The Question

Some cars are still commanding it even though the market is softening.

Good Morning! After a few days off with family, it feels good to be back in the saddle. Yesterday's auction action was limited to only BaT, but we'll be back in full swing tomorrow with auctions closing on some of our other popular online platforms.

The internet is always an interesting place where you never know who is behind a screen name or behind the stories they tell, especially with regard to selling cars. The owner of this delivery-mile 2022 Targa GTS was selling the car due to spinal surgery but has a 2023 coming in right behind it in a similar spec. To sell as well?

Seller stories aside, our Spotlight car sold for $203,000 on our first day of bidding after the holiday. With a sticker price of $193,070 and Florida sales tax of 6%, the seller came out just shy of even. The buyer? Well, they were able to skip the 2-3 year wait and potential dealer markup depending on their relationship ($) with their local dealer.

Since the buyer most likely was unable to order their own without playing the dealer game, I'd consider this well-bought. They basically walked into a "dealer" and bought the car they want for a little over MSRP. Pretty much the norm these days if the opportunity presents itself. Could they wait a few months for prices to soften even more? Possibly, but with wait times so far out and GTS allocations scarce, I don't see these veering too far from MSRP.

As far as the seller? I think they are lucky they made out without too much of a loss as I'm sure they had their hopes on a nice profit when they ordered this car over a year ago when the market was raging.
