What's Canada like?

Hello everybody and welcome another edition of the newsletter! :D

Listen in below:
Well it's been quite the introduction to Canada once again, popping over for the week to visit both Vancouver and my hometown. I've been meeting with family and friends but have also been battling a bit of a head cold. Was is the temperature drop or simply the meeting of new germs from a continent away? Do you find you get sick when you travel abroad?

This week's videos:
- Chinese: 休息一下
- Russian: Remember to change your iTalk timezone settings!
- English: A Traveller's Update from Downtown Vancouver
- EXTRA: Want a digital postcard?

Given the number of travels going on, the week has been about spending time with family, many with young kids. It's been fun to say the least, especially seeing what they are using to LEARN these days. Some observations:
-Lego is super popular, particularly the sets. Police, city, and ninjas are the popular items with the kids, but I've seen adults holding Lego bags.
-Lots of cell phones but, uh, adults... guilty of using them more! LOL! This is quite possibly because of the modern workday demands especially during the work wee.
-Disney songs are still popular from 20 years ago (Lion King, Little Mermaid), but there were some new shows and songs, notably Rubble & Crew (a Paw Patrol spin off) and one that I liked "Going on a Dragon Hunt", which I thought was rather catchy.

I took a break from studying Chinese this week as my sleep schedule was all over the place. Plus, my regularly structured day was kinda thrown out as happens when in a place for a short while. So, instead of trying to struggle through, I chose to take a break.
---
Likewise, with Russian, I DID try to schedule two classes with my teacher only to realize... iTalki was set to the wrong time zone.
I got a call at 5am on Skype from my Russian teacher and it was THEN that I realized that iTalki was NOT set to the same time zone settings as my phone. So, if you're travelling and using iTalki as your source for classes, be sure to check your time zone settings before you schedule class!

We did publish one video on Monday, all about Downtown Vancouver.
It's been a while since I've been Downtown, but I asked my brother if we could walk around. So we did.
We visited Granville Market, Robson Street (I think?), the Financial District, walked up and down Commercial Avenue, and, uh... also passed by Hastings. Quite the sight.
Heard a few different languages, notably Spanish, German and Indian dialects. And, of course, Chinese. I understood some of the things they were saying but, since I wasn't listening in too closely, contented myself with what I did understand. The point is that my language skillz were international. :D
If you'd like to see the video, it's here.

And finally finally, I figured since I'm on the move I might be taking a few pictures or so, but if you want a digital postcard, I'd be more than willing to send one out for you.
What is a DIGITAL POSTCARD?
Same same a regular paper post card but... digital.
Send me your email address and your name, and I'll snap a picture of somewhere around me and send it over to you via the good ol' email method.
