How to be happier (it's easy)
Jul 19, 2022 10:26 am
I've always wondered why I've looked fondly upon some of my most unfortunate travel stories. Like the time I went with my cousins on an overnight train from Germany for Denmark 15 years ago.
We arrived in Denmark exhausted from trying to pretzel our bodies around the armrests for sleep (because we couldn't afford a sleeper cabin). Luckily, we had a hotel booked. Problem: our "high tech" hotel key didn't work (and there was no 3 AM receptionist). So we cooked pasta in the lobby and slept on the couches until someone could let us in. I'm not sure I've ever been that exhausted!
That trip was an uncomfortable disaster in many ways. Strangely, I was much happier than usual throughout it... not just looking back on it, I felt happy during it. Why is that? How is that possible?
This new article I wrote explains why. Hint: it has to do with where my mind was. I hope you like it (and apply it!).
