Do you like fast-paced stories? 😁 Many stories have grand introductions into worlds, a history of a place, lineage of characters. Some authors are particularly skilled at painting their worlds vividly with immersive paragraphs of descriptions. ✨ Sadly, I am not one of these authors. 😅 I try to describe my worlds well but I've always tended to focus on the action, and moving it along, and personally, I prefer to read fast-paced stories. Something I learned in high school English that has somehow been ingrained in my mind and is now one of my most favorite narrative techniques is called "in media res." ✍️ In Latin, it means "in the midst of things." For me, it basically means starting the story where the action is. And very often, when I get stalled with my own writing, it's because I'm boring myself with how slow it is. 😆 "Escape", my metafiction/portal fantasy story in "Wicked Wishes", starts off right slap bang in the middle of the action. 💥 My very favorite place to start. 😍👍 Read it yet? 😊 "Wicked Wishes" is out now! Do you like this trope? 🤔 Somehow, I have just finished watching two consecutive movies where a good guy was secretly "the" bad guy. 🤯 I know it's a cool plot twist 😎 but I guess I get too invested in certain characters. 😅 You might be familiar with a certain SJM book that also used this trope. 😁🗡🌹 That guy's like a cautionary tale now. Do you know what a bookplate is? I'll be honest. I had no idea what it was until last year. Lol. 😅 📖 + 🍽️? 😂 Here's what Wikipedia says it is: "An Ex Libris also known as a bookplate is a printed or decorative label pasted into a book, often on the front endpaper, to indicate ownership." It's basically a sticker! 🤦‍♀️ And authors can sign them! ✍️ Especially if the said author (me!) comes from the remotest locations on the globe 🌏, like way down under, or possibly another dimension or something, where shipping costs are crazy for providing signed copies of books. 😁 Long story short, I now have some!
