It's a Season of Gratefulness, {{contact.first_name}}

Nov 17, 2021 9:31 pm

Hello, ,

I truly hope all has been well. For the most part, it has been for me. Been working hard on my end, particularly with editing projects and Charleston's Black Ink Book Festival. It will be virtual this year, too, and we're incredibly excited to have Beverly Jenkins as our keynote speaker in January 2022, and registration will open soon! In the meantime, please head over to Black Ink's YouTube page to check out January 2021's festival and our Fall into Romance event that occurred October 14, 2021, with Rochelle Alers, Vanessa Riley, and Jacquelin Thomas. I've also done a podcast about Black Ink Charleston which you can listen to here on Spotify. Episodes will release biweekly, and we will have amazing guests in support of Black Ink Charleston's mission to amplify Black voices.

In addition to working with Black Ink Charleston, I have joined two publishing projects in support of causes I strongly champion. The first is Romance for Roe, an anthology charity project featuring 36 amazing romance authors in support of making sure a person's Constitutional right to choose remains protected, despite individual states trying to run roughshod over it. Please visit Romance for Roe for more information on how to donate to receive your anthology.

The second publishing project is Ukewli: Searching for Healing Truth, South Carolina Writers and Poets Explore American Racism. This is a multifaceted project helmed by Herb Frazier and the late Horace Mungin that began in 2020. I went back to my poetry roots to contribute a poem that is paired with an essay written by a fellow South Carolina author. This publication should be released by Evening Post Books at the end of 2021 or early 2022. Link is forthcoming.

Finally, I want to say thank you to all of you for sticking with me through this year. 2020 put us all through the wringer, but in a lot of ways, it feels like 2021 said "hold my beer AND my flower!" Nevertheless, and particularly for my US readers, enjoy this Season of Thanksgiving and as always, be safe, be well, and Happy Reading! Let me know what good reads or eats you plan on enjoying during the season!

Sincerely,

Savannah, SJF Books

Romance for Roe Charity Anthology

Our ChoiceRomance for Roe is an anthology of 36 romance stories in aid of Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s refusal to stay the implementation of Texas SB8, Jackie Barbosa (email contact: romanceforroe@gmail.com) put out a call for fellow romance authors to contribute a story to a charity anthology in support of efforts to protect abortion rights and access.

As romance authors, the 36 contributors to this anthology believe all people deserve happy endings, including pregnant people who decide to terminate a pregnancy for any reason. That’s why we’re raising funds for PPFA and NARAL Pro-Choice, leaders in the national legal fight to protect the reproductive rights of all Americans.

Please do not send money directly to the Romance for Roe project; we are not a charitable organization under the law. Give directly to the two organizations we are supporting through this project and submit receipts at https://romanceforroe.com. Romance for Roe is unaffiliated with either PPFA or NARAL Pro-Choice America.

COURTING THE CLAUSES by Deatri King-Bey

Nook

Amazon

Seven years ago when Carol Claus became a widow, she lost everything from her identity to her home. All she had left was the love of her daughter. With time Carol emerged a successful businesswoman who swore to never be dependent or lose herself in someone else’s shadow again. When a larger-than-life neighbor moves in next door, she is apprehensive of his advances, but there’s just something about Nicholas Saint’s hardy laugh, dimpled smile, and twinkle in his eye that has her wanting more.

Only seventeen when her father passed, Jessica Claus didn’t have time to mourn. Instead, she accepted an entry-level job at a factory. Over the years Jessica showed her worth and is finally about to be rewarded with a managerial promotion. Thinking life couldn’t get better, her new neighbor Chris Saint is the stuff fantasies are made of, and he wants her to be part of that fantasy . . .

Then everything crashes, and the Saint men will have to pull off Christmas miracles to save their relationships with the Claus women.

This is a sweetish romance. There are also discussion questions at the end. Do not read the questions beforehand. There are spoilers in them.
