🟩 Guilt is not failure, it’s conditioning

Hi ,
One of the things I hear most often from new consultants and fractionals is how much guilt shows up in the early days.
They feel guilty for taking a walk at 2 pm on a Tuesday when everyone else is in meetings.
Guilty for working late on a Thursday when they think they should be “enjoying their freedom.”
Guilty for charging too much, as if they are overreaching.
And guilty for charging too little, as if they are undervaluing themselves.
No matter what they do, guilt tags along.
This is not a coincidence.
It is corporate conditioning.
Corporate teaches you that work has a “right” time and place.
That your value is set by someone else’s pay bands.
That your worth is measured by how others perceive your effort.
So when you step out on your own, those rules don’t vanish overnight.
They whisper in the back of your mind, telling you that you are doing something wrong.
But here is the truth: guilt is not a sign you are failing.
It is a sign you are still adjusting.
The work is not to eliminate guilt in a single step.
It is to notice when it creeps in, ask where it came from, and remind yourself that you no longer play by those rules.
You are not working inside someone else’s system anymore.
You are building your own.
And in that system, you get to decide what is right.
So the next time you feel guilty for how you spend your time, your energy, or your money, pause and ask:
“Whose rule am I following right now — mine, or theirs?”
