One of the most surprising things I hear from fractionals and consultants who leave corporate is how paralyzing the freedom can feel.

In corporate, every move required a green light.

Want to try something new? Run it up the chain.

Want to leave early? Submit a request.

Want a vacation? Get it approved.

So when they go out on their own, something strange happens.

They look around, realize there is no boss, and then start searching for one.

They ask a friend, “Does this sound like a good idea?”

They call a former colleague to get their blessing.

They scroll social media, looking for someone who has already given them permission to do what they want to do.

But here’s the truth: as a solopreneur, no one is coming to hand you approval.

That silence can feel terrifying.

It can feel like maybe you are doing something wrong.

But it is actually the point.

Because your business is yours alone.

And the only approval that matters is from your clients, your results, and yourself.

The hardest shift is realizing that waiting for permission is just another corporate habit that will hold you back.

It is something you decide.
