đźź© How many hats are you wearing today?

Hi ,
One consultant told me, “In corporate, I was the expert on one thing. Now, running my own business, I feel like I have to be good at everything.”
That shift can feel overwhelming.
In corporate, you are rewarded for narrowing your focus.
You become the go-to person for finance, or operations, or marketing.
You live in a lane, and the lane keeps you safe.
But when you go solo, the lanes vanish.
You are not just the expert anymore.
You are also the salesperson.
The marketer.
The bookkeeper.
The customer service rep.
The IT department.
At first, this feels like a step backward.
Like you are spreading yourself too thin.
But here’s the truth: it is part of the transformation.
Because while you may still lead with your specialty, learning to wear many hats makes you more resilient.
It gives you perspective on the whole business.
And it forces you to get better at the skills you once avoided.
Over time, you stop seeing yourself as “just” a specialist.
You start seeing yourself as the owner of a business.
That shift matters.
Because when you understand the whole machine, you are better at leading it, even if you are a company of one.
So don’t fight the discomfort of becoming a generalist.
Lean into it.
It is one of the ways you grow into the role you have chosen.
What “extra” hat are you learning to wear right now?
