A Little Bit

We are currently facing challenging times. The real estate market continues to search for its new "level," the mortgage rate market seems to be in limbo, and no one really knows what to expect. New lawsuits are emerging in the industry as brands and brokerages dispute the best way to serve clients.

In sports, we see money changing the rules of college athletics right in front of our eyes, and selfish professional athletes asking "What's in it for me?" instead of "How can I help make the team better?"

It took me until the third paragraph to even mention the growing chasm between the "sides" of our national political scene and the way media outlets feed the divide. "The truth is out there" was a tagline from the television sci-fi show The X-Files. In 1993, when the show started, we watched, hoping FBI Special Agents Scully and Mulder could find the truth that was "out there." Now, we just hope we can find the truth anywhere.

Sometimes a Song Just Hits You Differently

Have you ever been listening to music and a song comes on that you've heard hundreds of times, but for some reason the words sound clearer? Like the singer is speaking directly to you? Sometimes a song brings back memories of people, places, or events in your life. Other times you hear the lyrics differently than all the other times before.

The other day, with all the issues going on around us, the words of Supertramp's 1977 hit Give a Little Bit just hit me differently.

Give a little bit
Give a little bit of your love to me
I'll give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my love to you
There's so much that we need to share
So send a smile and show you care

I'll give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my life for you
So give a little bit
Give a little bit of your time to me
See the man with the lonely eyes
Oh, take his hand, you'll be surprised

Give a little bit
Give a little bit of your love to me
Give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my life for you
Now's the time that we need to share
So find yourself, we're on our way back home
Supertramp - Composers Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies

When asked about the song that became one of the band's greatest hits, guitarist and writer Roger Hodgson said, “The song is basically saying: just show you care. Reach out and show you care.

It's the little things that can really make a big difference. Share. Smile. Show you care.

Give your time to people. Let them know you see them, hear them, and love them.

Who knows? If we all give a little bit more tomorrow than we gave yesterday, it could make a big difference for all of us.

Maybe just a little.
