Hi there, Word Lovers,
How was your summer? Did you get to travel anywhere special? My daughter and I enjoyed a whirlwind trip to the States, which involved driving over 1200 miles. A feat that could take me to pretty much any major tourist destination in Europe from where I live in the Czech Republic. Just a fun fact ;)
Between having wonderful times visiting with family and friends, I also celebrated the release of the final book in my Untouched Time Transfer series. I slightly underestimated, and sold out of the signed paperbacks I'd ordered in less than a week! That was very exciting, and also a little bittersweet because there wasn't enough time to order any more, and I won't be back stateside for another two years. But it has been such a blessing to see how much people have been enjoying this series. Another fun fact, about 80% of the people who ordered the signed copies had already read the books, meaning...I think they liked it!
Since returning home, I've reloaded my bookshelf with all the new books that were waiting for me. We won't even speak of how heavy my carry-on was, or how grateful I was at my 5 AM flight from Spokane when they offered to book (haha) roller carry-ons through to our final destination. They had no idea what they were getting themselves into, and my daughter and I got a big laugh when we heard the sound of them setting it on the trolley with a massive thunk.
Can you spot the shelf with my books on it? I love that they have their own little section!
My daughter got right back into school after our return, and we've been spending early Saturday mornings mushrooming with my Father-in-law. Mushroom collecting is a serious pastime here, and the Czechs are very secretive about their hunting grounds. I'm not personally a big fan of eating mushrooms, but gathering them is a blast. Here are some of my faves:
I felt a bit like Betje, wandering in the forest and gathering wild gifts from the earth. And in case you're not privy to all things mushroom, that last one that looks so pretty and like it should have a fairy sitting on top or a mouse huddled underneath is what we call a one and done mushroom...so no, I didn't pick any of those, but for the first time ever I actually did find some big edible ones on my own. Do you enjoy eating shrooms?
In writing news, I'm currently working on the last round of edits for my next story in the Games of Greed and Ruin Steampunk series before I send it to my proofreader! My release date is still tentative because my fabulous cover designer, Candice Yamnitz, just had a baby and is currently out of commission. I'm still hooooping I can release it this fall, as I have two more books scheduled in the series before we complete the final group written story, but I don't know yet for sure. However, my goal is to have ARC/Street team signups available in my next newsletter--possibly an earlier edition if I can get it all together sooner--so if you're interested, be sure to keep your eyes open for that.
This next book will be a villain origin story, as well as filling in some background on the games and some other important characters from the series. It takes place about twenty-five to thirty years before the series. Here's a little hint about one of the main characters. IYKYK...
Thank you all for being with me on this wild writing adventure.
Until next time,
Sarah
