Dear ,
The Rio Grande, the river that held us during The Fire Years retreat, has been on my mind this Sunday.
Rivers run deep. They flow and carry debris away, or they get clogged by it. A river can wash away pain, or it can become the source of it. It can run deep or shallow. Aren’t we the same?
We gathered on a bluff above those cooling waters, and we talked about fire. Fire is a useful tool. It cooks, it warms, it purifies. It can also burn down and destroy. Sometimes, though, the destruction is the point. Sometimes an old version of ourselves has to burn away so that the (wo)man we have been becoming can finally emerge.
