Announcing: Lies Our Engineering Metrics Tell Us
Apr 17, 2026 2:16 pm
Happy Friday,
One thing I've found myself using AI for regularly is to ask it, "What ideas haven't we considered?" or "What would be something new to try?" AI read through my articles, newsletters, notes, and other things and suggested I offer workshops to companies.
Honestly, this is something I have considered, but not seriously. So now I am getting more serious about it.
The first step I'm taking is to offer a free webinar that I'm calling "Lies Our Engineering Metrics Tell Us." The idea is to cover some of the common metrics for engineering groups, common traps with them, and finally, how to tame that mess a bit.
But, since you're my community, I think you have the loudest voice. Does it feel intuitive to use metrics to support your decisions? How confident are you in your group's capacity and delivery? How do you know AI is helping or hurting?
Does working with data feel like looking for a needle in a haystack?
I want to hear from you, so reply to this email with what would be useful to you.
Before I go, let me offer a puzzle from this topic: Say your teams have started to adopt AI, does their velocity go up, go down, or stay the same?
Try to explain how the other two cases happen too.
Sign up for the free 45-minute webinar here.
Sincerely,
Ryan
PS: Forward this email along to folks in your company that might enjoy this webinar, and if you'd like to talk more about the private workshop for your engineering leadership teams, drop me a line.
