Making farms work (despite government harassment)
Jul 15, 2025 2:51 pm
A family we are friends with have decided to get out of farming just a week or so ago. They just couldn't make it work anymore.
Who can? It's a good question.
Can farms make it anymore, especially farms that aren't subsidized by public or private money. And especially with the constant harassment and difficulties that various government agencies are bent on creating for them.
Can farms raising real food and animals actual turn good profits while feeding their community?
Our upcoming Rogue wants to let attendees see the answer.
And the answer is yes.
So, this go Rogue will feature two farm tours, letting attendees see two very different models for creating profitable farms that are good for the farmers and good for the families that depend on them for their food.
Thursday morning folks will get to spend a few hours at The Farm On Central (yes, that Farm on Central, the one that was recently all over the news and socials because of harassment at the hands of various Ohio agencies... they will also be talking about this Friday or Saturday at main event).
Michael's operation attracts over 10,000 visitors per year, while still primarily serving his local community through a wide range of traditional and value added products available in their farm store.
Then on Friday show up bright and early at Aberlin Springs, see how Leslie Aberlin went about "saving the family farm," while still creating space for people by creating an agri-community where the farm truly sits front and center with a tour of Aberlin springs. Instead of trying to make everyone into farmers, imagine making more folks directly attached and invested in their farmers.
