So, for a few weeks a storm has been brewing in the MAHA/small farm/health food space.

You see, MAHA has a problem. People want healthy food... but many have no idea how to tell what healthy food is.

So... a slew of new solutions - apps - stepped in to fill the void. Sounds great, right?

You are at the store or farmer's market, pull out your phone, and quickly get a 3rd party telling who is legit and who you should avoid or quit.

The problem? A 3rd party is only as good as their testing and protocols... and Oasis?

Well, it's clear there's... didn't.

And... it wasn't just a product or farm here or there.

It was... dozens, hundreds, it seems thousands of wrongly scored products, farms, and brands. Often with industrial, highly processed foods ranking and scoring much better than small farms, cleaner brands, and more.

And it's not just Oasis. For example, overall, I appreciate the work Cornucopia Institute has done. But... one of the best organic farmer's in our area?

They gave him an F score. F. Why? His wife had cancer, and the letter they sent him (Which he may not have ever recognized in all the mail everyone gets on a daily basis) was never filled out and mailed back.

The fact is if you want truly healthy, integrity food, you don't have to do it all yourself... but you also can't farm it out. Every app or organization that steps in to this space will only be as good as the systems and protocols they use.

And many people stepping into the space may understand tech and apps and marketing and social media...

But they don't understand food and farming.

Perhaps we need to get people to start something who are good at both, or who can work together because each are above average on their side of the equation.

So next time you are at the market or store, and scan a product with one of the many food apps... remember to take their scores, ratings and rankings with a grain of salt. Because many of them may soon be facing a class action lawsuit for mistakes that after years of being warned... may even be malicious.
