This time we went to a PROPER Spice Store

image

Remember a few weeks ago when I said my friend took me a spice shop? And I was making fun of how "spice" means something different to a steamy romance writer?

Well, I told her about that and this week-- we ended up here:

This is not the sort of spice store you take photos inside of and I am neither confirming nor denying any purchases I may have made on the other side of the door at the bottom of these very creepy stairs.

Let me just assure you-- this was a proper "spice" shop!

And, in case you're wondering, it was actually about as classy as that sort of shop gets once you got inside. I just had to take a photo of the main entrance here because it's so cliche I about died laughing!

In writerly updates: Can we just talk about spice shops some more?

Writing is making slower progress than I'd hoped for September, largely because I still need to spend quality time with Colorado friend while I'm camped in her driveway. I'm back to my late night writing sessions, but the temperatures drop after sunset and my propane heater doesn't want to light reliably at 7,000 feet above sea level. Then I end up window shopping for alternative heaters for the little hobo house at 2 in the morning while wrapped in my blanket. But I'm also normally much closer to sea level by the time it drops below 65 degrees at night, so there's not much point in changing heat systems.

And it's not even really that cold, but I have a chunk of metal that was once used to pin the wrist of my dominant hand back together (why yes, I did used to own motorcycles, why do you ask?) and now if it's below 70 degrees, my left hand feels like it's freezing off. So I've been spending a lot of quality time with hand warmers this week.

I'll be heading back to Nevada soon though, where writing will be slowed by the need to finish one more construction project on the trailer before heading south for the winter. Where I will have nothing to do but write-- but then it'll be past the deadline for this trilogy I'm working on and I'll be talking your eyes off about whatever project I move to next.

In the meantime; don't forget to grab September's freebie from Annmarie Springs:

And also yes, I know I spaced out on the usual newsletter schedule. I've been unusually scatterbrained lately. I have no excuses.

You are receiving this email because you opted into the mailing list somewhere along the way, probably when you claimed a free book or bonus scene. If you don't remember doing that, it's ok, I end up on mailing lists the same way all the time. Give it a chance before you unsubscribe though, will ya?
