Eight A.M. Should be Illegal

Whose idea was this? I want to speak with their manager....

My alarm has gone off at 8 in the morning for 3 days in a row now. I have lost my sense of humor.

I've been a night owl since the womb. In my younger days, people liked to insist that adutlhood would change my internal schedule with the coming of responsibilities such as jobs and family.

Joke is very much on all those incredibly mistaken people as-- decades later-- it's only gotten worse.

I function best between 4 p.m. and 2 a.m. As does Las Vegas, Nevada.

However, the people running the author conference here this week seem to have missed this memo, and scheduled events to begin at absurd hours of the day for the entire week.

I'm officially on day 3 of "when I run the world"-ing my way through snooze alarms, multiple cups of coffee, and refraining from violently attacking people who cheerfully wish me "good morning" before noon.

But I've gotten to do a bit of fan-girling over authors who write in entirely different romance niches than I do. (Stephanie Holmes FTW) while spending a small fortune on cocktails and ice cream.

Despite the sleep deprivation and the sensory over-load, I've still managed to sneak back to my room and make tiny amounts of progress on the WIP while also madly scribbling copious notes on ideas for future books.

I am so ready to get back to my routine, where the alarm never rings, and a cheeseburger costs less than $32. Three more mornings of torture and then my vampiric circadian rhythms will be happy again.

Conferences are like trick-or-treat for authors. I grabbed so many of these ribbons from Bookfunnel's vendor table that I can play something like refrigerator word magnet games with them in my room.

I told the Bookfunnel crew that they need to add "instalove" to their ribbon collection.

My colleagues here at the conference are filling my head up with ideas: do we need a Rocklyn Ryder Reader Group on Facebook?
