Hello from Rimmy,
When my husband and I booked a trip to Maui a few months ago with our children, we were so excited to be taking them on the trip of a lifetime. We had so many things planned to do together. My older son wanted to try surfing. He's good at everything, so I'm sure he would've picked it up in one wave. Sadly, he never got the chance.
We never expected the trip to go as it did.
We arrived Sunday evening and spent all day Monday in Lahaina, shopping and playing at the beach. But Monday evening the winds hit. They were so bad, I couldn't sleep. I was just staring out the window when the power went out at 4am. From there it was a few straight days of zero access to news or any cell reception. Roads were blocked and all we heard all day was fire and ambulance sirens. Then we saw a sky of black smoke and real fear began to set in.
Thankfully, we were a couple of miles north of the fire, and the wind kept it away. I didn't sleep Tuesday night and only stared out the window, watching for the fire, or for the winds to change. By Wednesday, everyone was trying to get out of that part of the island. It was frightening to be trapped with so many people who were growing increasingly desperate. And there were others who came to that part of Maui just to take advantage of the situation.
But we managed to drive out late Wednesday, right through the middle of Lahaina and all the destruction. I still can't wrap my head around that much loss. It is so devastating.
So here we are, back home and starting school while still trying to process an experience like that one. Through it all, my kids were so very positive and kind to each other and everyone around us. They are amazing humans. During the most discouraging parts of this experience, my twelve-year-old son said "Don't worry Mom, it's okay. This is just a life lesson. My teacher says to always stay positive, so that's what we need to do."
Everyone needs a teacher like Mr. Myers for their kids. That my son can pull from the wisdom and guidance he learned and use it in a real-life emergency is just incredible. So grateful. ❤️
So there you have it. I'm back at work but not at my most productive, as it's taking a little longer than I thought to adjust to everyday life. I hope you're all doing well and I'm so glad to be here chatting with you again! I have some updates to share with you and a question to ask too...
If you didn't know, A Tail For Trouble is available now at all stores! Or you can get the paperback on Amazon. It's getting great reviews!
Also, just in case you missed it, my series starters are free! Have you read them yet? You can find them HERE as part of a fun freebie promotion. And don't forget to read the rest of the series! I love adding to a great story, layering tension and relationships, and backstory. So read on, and enjoy all the depth to these characters. Happy reading!
And now for my question... I have a middle-grade fantasy that I've been working on for ages 8-12. It's about a boy just starting 7th grade, but there are a few problems. For one, he has no memories of anything before the past two weeks. Also, his eyes are turning purple. And when he begins having flashbacks of himself as a villain in another world, he starts to have some real concerns.
So, my question is, is this a book you'd like to know more about? Does it sound like something you, or someone close to you, would be interested in reading? Let me know! I'd love to keep you in the loop on this project, but only if it's something you're interested in.
And that's all for now! Definitely a longer email than I usually send, but I appreciate you being with me. If you've made it this far, thank you for reading! Have a wonderful day.
Cheers,
Rim
